Mission: More than an equipment company, Alta is an innovator of solutions, delivering diverse products and unrivaled support centered on building lasting customer relationships.
Alta Equipment has been named Equipment World’s 2018 Big Iron Dealer of the Year!
Equipment World editors note that the division has experienced a significant turnaround within the past six years, with the group going from 12 to 310 employees and growing ten-fold. With Volvo Construction Equipment as its flagship line, Alta Equipment’s construction group now has nine locations in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. The parent firm also includes an industrial equipment group.
Alta Equipment is providing facilities for the independent Detroit Training Center, located in downtown Detroit, which provides training in diesel mechanics, equipment operation, asbestos abatement and obtaining a commercial driver’s license.
With a same-day solution philosophy, the company says it stocks 10 to 15 percent more parts than usual and has made a commitment to provide a robust rental fleet.
Through its acquisition of Elite Heavy Equipment Services in Spring Grove, Illinois, earlier this year, Alta Equipment aims to “crack the code” in field service.
We are an industry leading industrial and construction equipment company. We sell, service and rent a broad range of equipment.
At each of our 24 locations throughout the Midwest, you’ll find a staff of friendly, knowledgeable people dedicated to helping you grow your business. Our team includes:

I have been working at Alta Equipment full-time (More than 8 years)
I think first and foremost it is the people I work with day in and day out. Great group of people who embody fostering customers for life. The senior management team is passionate and completely dedicated to empowering their teams and they truly care. They are not there for a paycheck, they are there to win! Also, there are opportunities for advancement and the organization is actively involved with the community. The culture is amazing and the company is constantly growing the right way. The benefits are top notch and they take a very small amount out of our paychecks. Alta does a terrific job to take care of their employees and I plan on staying for as long as they will have me.
I don't really have anything negative to say, but if you are reviewing Alta then I'd tell you to do what you can to be a part of the team. So many employees comment how it was such a great career move to come to Alta, including myself.
Advice to Management
An increased effort to "build the bench". We have a lot of talented employees, but most of them don't seem interested in advancing into supervisory/managerial positions.
I applied in-person. The process took a week. I interviewed at Alta Equipment (New Hudson, MI) in July 2015.
Waited 2 hours in the waiting room past my 9 am appointment to be interviewed. When I was finally interviewed it felt like I was drinking with a bunch of buddies. No pressure, no position related questions were asked, only experience related questions.
