AF Culture

Colleagues at American Fidelity enjoy coming to work. The environment focuses on collaboration and openness. Executive management truly cares about Colleagues – and shows it through their actions, not just by saying the words. That’s what’s led American Fidelity being included on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” nine times.

The Company president is known to randomly walk into a Colleague’s office and share a joke or stop and ask how you’re doing if he sees in you the hall. The executive team’s doors are always open. An online anonymous feedback board gives employees the chance to voice their opinions, and managers or other employees can submit responses to questions.

If you join AF, a career development specialist is available to assist with creating a career plan, whether you want to grow in your current position or want to move to another part of the organization. Many of our positions are filled internally, allowing for Colleague growth. This strongly contributes to our high performance levels and Company success.

Team-based Environment

At American Fidelity, you’re immediately immersed in the team-based culture. You’ll not only connect with your department members, but with people from around the Company as you participate in team-based projects. These teams collaborate on projects such as recruiting, going green, new technology projects, social media, product development and many more.

From the start, you’ll be told how your role fits into the big picture and affects the overall growth of the Company. Incentives are offered for helping the Company reach its goals.

Our Hiring Process

Want to join our family? Our automated online application starts the process. This tool is customized to screen for both skill sets and culture fit.

Our next step if there is a position match is a phone interview with a recruiter from our Talent Management team. Candidates who pass this phase are then scheduled for additional skills testing and a face-to-face interview with the recruiter. The next step involves an interview with the hiring manager, and then usually a team interview to ensure fit with the whole team.

“When interviewing for a management position with American Fidelity earlier this year, I interviewed with members of the team I now manage, my peers in the department, peers of the hiring manager and even the CFO and the president of insurance operations. Having the opportunity to interview and be interviewed by such a range of individuals enabled both me and the organization to determine if I was a good fit," said Jim Ward, Life Valuation Actuary manager.

We’re always looking for potential Colleagues with these skills:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent problem solvers
  • Flexibility
  • Team spirit
  • Sincere desire to serve others

American Fidelity’s New Headquarters

hero_building

American Fidelity is moving to 9000 N. Broadway (near Britton and Broadway Extension), Oklahoma City, from our current headquarters near 23rd and Classen, OKC. The new location allows us room to grow and a newer facility. The property includes 150 acres with a showcase office building, parking garage, outdoor pavilion, walking trails and more.

We are in the process of renovating the existing building and preparing for the move. As part of our planning, we are investigating ways to bring new or improved benefits to our Colleagues due to the additional space. To ensure we have a smooth process, we are transitioning to the new property over the next three years. We will let everyone know when we’ve officially moved.

    I have been working at American Fidelity Assurance Company full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    In my experience with American Fidelity (and outside of American Fidelity) I would be hard-pressed to name a better place to work in Oklahoma City for a company of this size. Like any company AF is not perfect, but there is so much to like:
    * Challenging, meaningful work
    * Fair base compensation
    * Strong, substantial bonus opportunities
    * Collegial environment
    * Approachable management (for the most part)
    * Very flexible work options
    * Strong degree of autonomy
    * Good benefits

    Cons

    Food selection at the on-site cafeteria is not great. Think California health plate out the wazoo.

    I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at American Fidelity Assurance Company (Oklahoma City, OK) in October 2018.

    Interview

    The interview process was very nerve racking at first, but Chris, the Security Operations Manager was very welcoming. He answered my questions very detailed and passionately. He made the company seem very homey and a great place to work.
