Able to interact and enhance the customer experience. Free train travel for employees and immediate family. Great health, vision, and dental coverage for union employees.
Job placement is based on seniority. Crazy work schedule unless you have enough seniority to hold a regular schedule. Forget about having weekends off unless you have more than 20 years seniority. Company does not match 401k contribution for union employees. Minimal room for growth. Management is very disconnected from front line employees. Forget about leaving on time if trains are delayed. Divorce rate is high in this industry.
Advice to Management
Improve listening skills and consider and respect employees concerns and suggestions. Frontline employees have valuable input to help resolve issues. Focus on mentoring and coaching employees rather than trying to get rid of them. Amtrak will only be successful when managers and employees learn to coexist and work together to enhance the customer experience.
I applied online. The process took 6+ weeks. I interviewed at Amtrak (Chicago, IL).
it was short an simple. The test was the hardest part about it. You have to pass the test before you even get the interview. Be on time and not a min late. They prefer you get there earlier and it even makes you look good to them.
