In 2006, Anaplan was born in a little, red barn in Yorkshire, UK, the invention of mathematician Michael Gould.

This pandemic has blurred the line between professional and personal lives in a profound and very likely permanent way. As leaders, it’s no longer enough to take into consideration the health and safety of our employees; we need to think about the ‘whole’ person including what is happening at home. We have realized quickly that we need to think about every aspect of our employees’ lives and ask ourselves how we can lessen the burden of this transition for them.

Our approach includes two distinct elements. First, we’ve focused on our people and tried to think about how these changes have affected their entire lives, not just their working hours. Next, as a company, we’ve thought about what we can do to help our community not only because it is the right thing to do, but because all people, including ours, are craving the opportunity for purpose and we want to help everyone through this situation.

The biggest part of our people-first approach has been communication and connection. The entire leadership team at Anaplan has been making sure our employees hear from us regularly, consistently and with transparency. We send out company-wide updates several times a week. These include factual updates, work from home best practices, updated benefits information and more. We’re also making sure that mental health is prioritized, encouraging employees to set boundaries and take mental health days, making sure they know they can talk to their managers and reminding them of all the resources available to them.

We host weekly company-wide meetings where employees are encouraged to ask our CEO and senior management any questions they have. We’ve also been inviting external speakers like customers, partners and public health experts to these sessions so our employees can get a broader perspective. In addition, we’ve created more avenues for connection since the literal water cooler isn’t available to us anymore. This includes several new Slack channels and virtual happy hours. My favorite has been the #instaplan channel where we have a new theme every few days to share photos and moments of levity.

The second prong of our approach has been customer and community focused. Being an upstanding corporate citizen is important in its own right, and it also matters deeply to our employees. One thing we’ve seen around the world is that everyone wants to be a helper. Every single person wants an opportunity to feel like they are easing or helping with this global crisis in some way. In some of our earliest company-wide meetings after the pandemic started, the question we kept hearing was, “How can we help?”

This is how Anaplan Helps was born. Anaplan Helps has three different programs: a hackathon to develop COVID-19-specific applications, work internally and with our partners to

create additional applications to help our customers, and a free-trial for qualifying organizations.

At the end of March, we held a five-day hackathon for our Master Anaplanners – external experts on our platform from around the world – which yielded 16 ready-to-use applications that organizations could download and use right away. This included things like inventory planning for food banks, hospital resource planning and restaurant continuity planning, among others. Since then we’ve added four more apps by our own talented Anaplanners, and partnered with Deloitte to build a clinical staffing model. These different use cases are solving some of the most urgent needs today.

We also launched a free 90-day trial of the Anaplan platform for qualifying organizations who are responding to the pandemic or providing essential services. We’ve focused on non-profits, health care providers, governments and NGOs. We have several active trials with organizations we’ve never worked with before, including some government agencies from around the world. We also have offered the trial to existing customers to help them use Anaplan in new ways to manage through this crisis, including those looking to shift from making their usual products to personal protective gear and hygiene supplies for health care workers.

We’ve heard from our employees how much it’s meant to them to have the opportunity to work on these initiatives and it’s been a huge morale boost. I am so proud of how our people are navigating this challenge, and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure they feel supported, valued and empowered as we all navigate these unprecedented times. We know there are more hurdles to face, but we are confident that with our approach to take this on together, while putting people first, we will come out better on the other side.

    The hiring process was very smooth and very well managed, with regular updates/contact throughout the process.

    There are several steps that candidates have to go through - and whilst this might appear arduous to some, each step is well considered and helps to ensure that both you and Anaplan are making the right decision.

    The internal team, including recruitment, were all very knowledgeable. In addition, the hiring team were always at hand to answer any questions, and consistently prompt with feedback
