Mission: Everyone deserves a home they love. We help make the search simple.
Does political polarization in the US affect housing choice? We examined how housing choice correlates with how we see ourselves fitting within the American Dream, which can have a strong influence on how we choose our elected officials.
5. Housing policy will take center stage in national politics.
Here at Apartment List, we believe that everyone deserves a home that they love and we want to help you find it. After all, the place you call home is often your biggest investment. From making dinner with friends to a baby’s first steps, your home becomes your interior world, a place built on relationships and shared moments.
With over 110 million renters in the U.S., we want to change the conversation around renting, and we’re engaging the brightest minds to help reimagine the rental process. We currently have more than 4 million units on our site and we’re growing!
Apartment List launched in September 2011 and was founded by CEO John Kobs and COO Chris Erickson. We’ve raised more than $110M in funding from Canaan Partners, Matrix Partners, and Passport Capital. Health & Wellness
Healthy employees are happy employees, so we do all we can to keep you in shape! Take advantage of the our monthly gym membership stipend. We offer full coverage on our health, vision, and dental benefits for you and your family. We make sure you can take a break with programs like flexible time off and competitive parental leave, so you can enjoy your life outside the office.
Out of Office
We love spending time together outside of work. We celebrate everything from Halloween to company milestones, and we do it in style. We also go beyond the parties—join monthly company-wide events like community service, scavenger hunts, our yearly Tahoe ski trip, and monthly department outings to get to know your team better.
Grab a plate and join your teammates for daily lunches, brought to us by Nourish Inc. Our office also has fresh fruit courtesy of Fruit Guys, and a variety of healthy and yummy snacks.
Not everyone lives within walking distance of the office, so take advantage of our monthly transportation stipend, as well as pre-tax account for commute. Use it to cover refills on your Clipper card, bike costs or Lyft/Uber rides to the office.
In addition to general tech rockstars, we embody these core values.
I have been working at Apartment List full-time (Less than a year)
Working for Apartment List has been the best decision career wise that I could have made. From the CEO down, the employees all genuinely care about the success of the platform and it shows in the daily flow and work within each department. Although it is a smaller company, it is growing quickly. However, there are ample opportunities to foster and cultivate an atmosphere that allows all employees the chance to interact or feel as part of the team. This includes company events (holiday party, skiing in Tahoe, annual SPARK conference, etc), as well as in office meetings like the Friday Q & Meals, in which everyone (including us remote employees who call in) attends. For me, the compensation and benefits for my role have been more than adequate and are a huge incentive for me to continue to work at Apartment List for as long as I can. I also think that the leaders are incredibly easy to work for and always motivate me to push myself to do more. Even on days that I am exhausted or feel like I didn't do my best, I am always thankful for this job and don't have a negative about the company itself.
I honestly do not have any negatives. However, if you are looking for a job where you can get by without pulling your weight, you're looking at the wrong company. I do not always work 9-5 hours, but I personally feel like it's worth it because of how happy this job makes me.
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you're doing and maintaining the same transparency and concern for not only the product, but your clients and employees, even with the amount of growth expected.
I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Apartment List (San Francisco, CA) in August 2011.
The interview process was thorough but not over-the-top difficult or exhaustive. Also, it gave me enough chance to meet a lot of different employees and have all my questions answered.
