I worked at Aplia part-time (More than a year)
I worked remotely as a part-time contractor reviewing on-line course material, so the work was technically interesting and I had a huge amount of geographic and time flexibility.
I've worked remotely before, but at Aplia I felt very disconnected from the company. I interacted with two employees who were great to work with, but it was hard to gauge my performance and prospects for future work. The hours & pay weren't enough to sustain a person; it was on a project-by-project basis with gaps between.
Advice to Management
Include remote contract workers a bit more - organizationally and with performance feedback.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Aplia in November 2010.
We went from a standard HR Manager interview, to a second interview with a seasoned sales rep, to onside interviews with 1) an inside salesperson, 2) outside Account Manager, 3) VP of Development, 4) the company CEO, and finally the HR Manager. This was followed up a week letter with a phone call from the HR Manager indicating I would be receiving an offer letter in the mail shortly, which came by overnight delivery the next morning.
There wasn't really any negotiation. I had made more with a previous employer, but was highly impressed with the people and company culture at Aplia.
