Product Marketing At Lion Studios Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at AppLovin (United States) in Jul 2020

    Interview

Had a phone screen with the recruiter, phone interview with someone on the team, and a zoom interview with who I think is the hiring manager. I really enjoyed the first two rounds, especially the Senior Product Marketing Analyst was super kind to speak with. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the panel interview after speaking to the Manager on zoom, which would have been the final step.

I noticed people who wrote reviews about interviewing for the Lion Studios team, had a terrible recruiter that seemed disinterested. When I first spoke to the recruiter during our phone screen she also sounded disinterested and had one-word responses, though after communicating with her through email as I advanced to other rounds, she was actually really pleasant and quick to respond! I think she just has a monotoned character which throws people off initially.

Now, my only negative review is for the zoom interview I had with the hiring manager. I had to complete a very lengthy take home assignment, and the recruiter even notified me prior our interview to prep to explain my thought process on the assignment because the manager will go over it during the interview. I had a 1 hour interview with the manager, and not once did he bring up the assignment???? I even had to ask him questions about how he would best approach certain aspects of the assignment, which he brushed a quick answer. I'm ok with completing assignments as that's been the case for the types of roles I apply for, however to not bring it up for discussion at all during the interview, just made me feel like I completed free labor for him.

In the job description, UX research is a plus for the Product Marketing team. When I asked him how he incorporates UXR into his PMM efforts, he explained briskly that "it's just the same Market Research aspect". While I may be more junior compared to him, I'm pretty sure UX research and Market Research are different. If this is how he handles UXR, it's no wonder their games have negative reviews on the App store about usability and crashes.

Again, this negative review is solely for the PMM I spoke with. Everyone else was great. I still wonder how I did on that assignment though. Apparently the reason why I got rejected was because I lacked analytical skills, which I wonder how the PMM decided that because he just spent an hour interviewing me about my collaboration experiences.

Recruiter phone screen: general questions, know why you want to work here, why this role, and go over your experience Phone screen with senior analyst: know their competitors, know a couple of their games well, there was also a scenario question on how you would advertise their games Video interview with manager: He really just asked me a ton of questions on my past + how I would collaborate with Creative teams
