I worked at Applied Ecological Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work load was manageable, everyone was easy to work with. Ours were 8:00-500, I was doing the accounts payable and answering phones. Started as a temp, then worked my was to staying for 3 years. I loved this job, was close to my home and family business.

    Cons

They hired someone to reorganize the company, when this happened lots of people were let go including myself. I was never hired in as an actual employee, they considered me seasonal even though I worked 32-40 hours a week. Wasn't really explained to me why they let me go or why after 3 years I was still seasonal.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Applied Ecological Services (Brodhead, WI) in March 2012.

    Interview

I talked to the manager in a barn type of office. The manager showed me around the shop; where they keep the native grass seeds, where all of the tools, trucks and equipment are stored. dropped a few appropriate vocabulary words that I had picked up in one of my ecology/environmental geology classes. After that, I was given a mouth-swab drug test (almost instantaneous results), The I was given a shake of the hand, and then i was offered to start working the next morning.

    Interview Questions

    • What time can you show up tomorrow? and Can you lift up to 75 lbs throughout the day?   1 Answer

    Negotiation

there was no negotiation involved. The company branch really needed young people capable of doing difficult physical work and I guess i fit the part. I was told what i would be making and I accepted. I was just happy to have a job.
