I have been working at ArcelorMittal South Africa full-time (More than 5 years)
Good for a career start. Exposure to anything you like as soon as you are interested. Endless opportunities for choosing area of interest for work, ability to pick a "pet subject" for a further development.
Salary can be better, continuous survival mode, trade unions have a strong power. Everyone is responsible for everything, often a culture of a firefighting mode. Labor doesn't seem to care about the company future, "too big to sink" attitude to the company performance.
Advice to Management
Improve recognition system, work on implementation of systems in order to create a more structural approach to the business operation, have equal fair approach to both corporate and operational legs.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at ArcelorMittal South Africa (Johannesburg (South Africa)) in May 2014.
I hosted Dr.J. Mologo from ArcelorMittal Liberia to our ArcelorMittal Engineering Academy in Vanderbijlpark. He was the initiater to build a Vocational Training Center in liberia and he asked me if I was interested in training at the VTC,which at that time they were busy rebuilding the whole training center after the civil war. I was then in contact with the head of the HR ArcelorMittal Head-quarters in London Mrs.Ann Pearce explaining what we do at the Instrumentation classes and the whole of our training at the academy. Then I was telephonically interviewed by the VTC Manager, which they accepted my interview by sending my contract to be signed.
