Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging

Supporting people from all backgrounds and experiences is critical to our culture and our success. We honor people’s humanity in all of our disparate experiences, accepting each person as an individual with a story worth listening to. We believe that honoring everyone’s humanity means being committed to equity and justice. We also believe that there’s always more we can do to support our team members. Here’s how we’re making Articulate even more inclusive and equitable for our folks:

  • Hiring a diverse workforce, supporting diverse employees at every level in the organization, and committing full-time staff to promote inclusion
  • Creating a thriving work environment and positive experiences for all employees
  • Building our capacity to support each other across various identities
  • Providing clear guidance and instituting practices that support our diversity and inclusion efforts

Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) create a sense of belonging and cultivate relationships between people of similar backgrounds and experiences. Articulate leaders engage with ERGs to hear their feedback, and ERG members are encouraged to build community throughout their work. ERGS are some of our most powerful advocates for meaningful organizational change.  Here’s a list of our current ERGs:

  • Better Allies
  • Black Articulate Network
  • Latinx Allies
  • Queerticulate
  • WISE (Women’s Empowerment)

Education

Every employee who joins Articulate takes a course called, I’m Not a Racist, Am I?  It’s a deeply engaging learning experience that tackles the legacy of racism in America and includes deep discussions on how we collectively build a diverse culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging at Articulate.

We also regularly hold virtual brown-bags, have virtual guest speakers, and offer educational e-learning courses on celebrations and histories of various cultures.

Respect

We care about and respect people’s individuality. We believe that everyone has unique needs, wants, and skills. We recognize that we’re all capable adults who can be trusted to make independent decisions that are in the best interest of customers, each other, and the company. To us, this is empowering.

We respect and empathize with our teammates, building relationships founded on genuine care. We love seeing others succeed and do whatever we can to help.

Autonomy

We’re a fully remote company, so we can work from anywhere, whether it’s at a campground with Wi-Fi, our home office, or a coworking space.

We’re trusted to take responsibility for our jobs and to do them well. We’re given the tools we need, then given the space to succeed.

We get to decide how to do what we’re responsible for doing—we’re in charge of that. We decide what frameworks and tech stacks to use. We decide what we can and cannot do to help customers.

We’re all free (and expected) to exercise our crafts the best way we know how to reach our goals as individuals and teams. We have the freedom and responsibility to reach our goals the way we want.

Productivity

Empowering folks to be productive is the core goal for how we support every employee. And we’re very clear that activity does not equal results. We fundamentally reject the notion that activity equals productivity. So we do those things that help us produce tangible work that’s critical to our business.

We’re empowered to do only those things that will ultimately help us change the lives of our customers and their learners.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Articulate Inc..

    Interview

Was contacted by an internal HR employee. Worked with them throughout the process to setup interviews with other employees. They spend like 45 mins in the initial phone screening talking about how "people-centric" they are and promise a quick and pleasant interview experience, no matter the outcome. Was not my experience. Took 2 weeks for 2 interviews, one phone screening with HR and a technical interview with the Director of Engineering. I contacted the HR rep after each step as I was instructed, and after the 2nd interview I didn't hear anything back for a whole week. And the response was a super cold/generic rejection letter, no feedback on why- which I think was merited since I made it more than halfway through their interview process. I emailed HR to ask for some feedback and never heard back.

My takeaway: they are not as people-centric as they claim. They romanticize themselves as an ideallic company that is like no other, but it is all talk. The interview process will not be short as they promise. HR will call you constantly during your workday at your current job and will be offended when you are not available.
