I have been working at Ashford University full-time (More than a year)
I have been able to find a healthy work/home/life balance with the flexibility I have found in my role here for the past two years. I have had the ability to work from home and get more accomplished while tending to sick children and taking care of situations that arise when needing a little more flexibility.
The cross collaboration has also allowed me to develop skills beyond my role, and my degree path which only makes me a more well rounded employee. The leadership development track and access to nationally recognized leadership assessments aid in the development of employees in relational interactions and collaboration.
Leadership and organizational changes happen without warning and can leave gaps in place requiring people to pick up more work without additional compensation.
Many roles are stationary and do not allow for growth vertically within the organization.
Advice to Management
Organization culture can improve. Allowing more flexibility for employees that are able to work from home. Finding out from employees what they want vs providing casual Friday options, doughnuts, game room, and ice cream. Find out what employees value and meet them there.
I applied online. I interviewed at Ashford University.
I was first given a "written interview" that asked me to answer a set of questions and compose statements of teaching philosophy and subject matter expertise, that then became the basis for the telephone interview that followed.
