I worked at Aspera full-time (More than 8 years)
I worked at Aspera from 5/2006 - 5/2017. It was a company that always prioritized excellence, free of corporate politics and nonsense. The founders (Michelle Munson and Serban Simu) built the company from nothing into a powerhouse by keeping us all intensely focused on customer needs and demanding our best work. After IBM acquired Aspera in 1/2014 they stayed on, continuing to grow the company and doing an admirable job preserving our culture.
With regards to someone else's negative review about micromanagement - the founders were involved in every aspect of the company the same way Steve Jobs was at Apple - they were passionate about making sure that our products and customer support were nothing less than great.
Unfortunately, in May 2017 the founders were pushed out suddenly, which (to reuse my earlier comparison) was the equivalent of Apple's 1985 firing of Steve Jobs. I quit the following week, as (based on their first action) I have neither confidence nor trust in the new management.
Advice to Management
To the head of IBM: Replace the person who fired the founders - he has already done irreparable damage, but perhaps you can avoid further losses in company reputation, morale, personnel, and customer relationships
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Aspera in March 2017.
I applied it online and received the coding challenge. After several weeks later, they scheduled me a phone interview. The phone interview started with some behavioral questions, and followed by two technical questions. The interviewer did not ask me to write the code, but instead let me explain my thoughts. After the interview, the recruiter said would give me second interview, but never heard from them since then.
