Audax Group is an incredibly successful firm based upon a simple model. This model also lends itself to very high deal volume. No other firm can show you the deal process front to back as many times as Audax. Junior team is a great group of people, very welcoming.
This high deal volume lends itself to repetitive processes and many repeated phone calls with 3rd parties. Not much work on operational initiatives, analyst role is mainly as CFO support during add-on acquisitions.
Advice to Management
Keep making money, and people will keep working hard for you. Management's familial priorities are in the right place, just pay it forward.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Audax Group (Boston, MA).
After the first round of on campus recruiting, you will be brought in for a second round interview. Scheduling with the HR people is quite easy and efficient, and they are quite clear what your day will consist of. You have 4 interviews in a row, two fit and two case. One of the fit interviews is with one of the MDs and will be more conversational. The second is with a more junior employee and follows the standard format of the classic behavioral interview (i.e. tell us a time you were a leader, what accomplishment are you most proud of, etc.). The first case interview will also be more conversational and is again with an MD. They will ask you to talk through a case of a company that they worked with. They will expect you to do an analysis of the market size, and then they ask you what you would suggest in terms of gaining information on the market as well as promoting a certain product. They sort of work with you through the interview, and more than anything want to see your thought process. The second case interview is again with a more junior member and follows the standard candidate led consulting case interview format. I will detail that question below. After your four interviews, they take you to lunch with two first year analysts who participated in the summer internship. This is a great way to learn more about the summer and the culture of the company itself. They are quite punctual getting back to you-- I had a missed call before I had even gotten back to lunch.
