Our ethos is to give our clients exceptional customer service and a trip that surpasses their expectations. As a result, they return to us year after year and recommend us, too.
That’s why our people are crucial. We rely on outstanding employees who are committed to providing excellent service.
We’re firm believers that the more our people keep their spirit and individuality, the more fulfilled they are and the better they work.
That doesn’t mean we work chaotically. Each role is creative, varied and challenging, and we’re business-like and thoroughly focused. The trips we plan in every detail for our clients mirror our responsible but enjoyable approach.
We care about getting results, we work hard and we pride ourselves on being the best in the business. But we know how to have a good time together, too.
What's it like to work at Audley?
We know how to have fun when we are not working hard! Our open-plan Boston office is situated in the trendy North End district near to the Boston Garden and New England Aquarium. There are views over the river to Cambridge and the modern financial district and some great eateries nearby.
Our location promotes activity! From having our own on-site gym, subsidized spin classes to onsite yoga and circuit classes there is never a lack of things to get involved in. If ping-pong is more up your street then grab a paddle for a lunchtime game, or you can chill out by the TV on the sofas in our snug rooms.
In addition to daily events, hard work is rewarded here - Employees are given the opportunity to win spaces on our half yearly incentive top performer trips with locations such as Miami and Venice, Italy. We make sure that there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy your colleagues by hosting Trivia nights, pool tournaments and company parties in venues like The City Winery and cruises around Boston Harbor.
At Audley Travel, we have hand-picked our benefits to best fit our employees’ needs and many have been introduced as a result of feedback from annual engagement surveys. We constantly strive to improve our benefits and make Audley the best place to work.
Our programs include:
In addition due to employee feedback we have recently reduced our working hours from 40 hours to 37 hours per week!
I have been working at Audley Travel full-time (More than a year)
+Constant and visible effort at all levels of the business to keep improving and act on feedback (internal and external)
+Lots of training support
+Really top-notch product you can genuinely recommend
+Excellent gender balance at all levels of the company (and great parental leave and pay parity policies to match)
+Very agile approach and the company is constantly reexamining things to see how to do them better
+No side eye for going home on time as long as you're on top of things
+General lack of unnecessary micromanagement
+Generally good benefits and great perks
-Often difficult to stay on top of the sheer amount of work you need to get done in a day to keep up
-Pay is reasonable but unremarkable, and achieving higher income levels requires disproportionately more work
-Basically the bare minimum possible amount of work space allocated per employee and a badly overcrowded office environment
-Very few non-white employees
-Management spends most of their time away from their desks in meetings
Advice to Management
I think the philosophy and core ideas are all excellent, and generally the implementation's on the right track, but there's still some room for improvement with the compensation and benefits. And the number of people you're trying to cram into the current offices is not sustainable - we don't have the desk space, the floor space, the meeting space, or even the bathrooms to support this number of employees.
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Audley Travel (Boston, MA) in June 2015.
The interview process has changed since I was hired in 2015. It was a very intense interview given by three people and it lasted for a few hours. Country and travel knowledge are quizzed as well as sales experience.
