Avalanche has truly some of the most gifted people in the industry. They're all very smart, creative, passionate and capable of creating greatness with a small team. Working with such great people is exhilarating and fulfilling.
The company is also small enough to have a family feel, but large enough to have access to satisfactory resources such that one never feels deprived of equipment, software, etc.
A lot of the senior staff haven't worked anywhere else, and don't know how things are done elsewhere. As a result, there can be a resistance to change and new ideas, which can be very frustrating.
Advice to Management
Beware of the cultural issues limiting change and new ideas. They will be very harmful in the long run, in terms of technology and possibly attrition.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Avalanche Studios (New York, NY) in December 2016.
Involved a lot of in depth questions regarding programs like Substance Designer (know the nodes) and bringing stuff through the pipeline. The skype interview was generally used to test know-how of PBR pipeline and workflow.
