Avalere Health – Why Work With Us?

Who We Are: About Us

Avalere Health, an Inovalon company, is a healthcare consulting firm focused on solving complex business problems. Based in Washington, DC, Avalere's experts span nearly 200 staff drawn from all aspects of healthcare. Our clients represent the largest pharmaceutical and device companies, health plans, providers, and private equity and sell-side investors.

Armed with data from more than 48 billion medical events from more than 287 million unique patients, we use real-world data to devise actionable solutions to advance business operations. What’s more, our hands-on experience with patient and provider interventions increases quality of care.

Nearly 20 years ago, we set out to be the essential voice in improving healthcare. Our name was inspired by the Latin word “valere," meaning "strong and of good health." Filled with movement, our logo captures an essential leadership model: the migration of birds which travel long distances in a V formation. While each bird has a clear vision of its destination, the flock benefits from the wake created by their synchronized wing beats. The lead bird takes the brunt of the effort for a time and then drops back to let another bird assume the lead. Migrating birds demonstrate a powerful model of constant collaboration and communication.

We incorporate this special concept of leadership and teamwork in everything we do. It is the core of our energetic spirit and the foundation of our values.

Avalere What Matters Banner Imag

We know the only way to change healthcare is to look at it from every point of view. We purposefully and thoughtfully created a work environment to encourage different perspectives, ideas, and approaches to improve business and patient care. We go deep into the complex layers of healthcare to pinpoint the cause and work closely with our clients to develop a solution that works for them. Gathering ideas from everyone on the project, regardless of title and tenure, keeps us fresh and open minded. We prize curiosity, sharing ideas, listening, and inspiring each other to rethink healthcare.

We set a high bar by offering substantive, high-quality services to help our clients accomplish their business goals. Avalere's work informs strategic decisions backed by real-world data to give our clients confidence in the facts.

We deliver actionable answers built on our experience as industry leaders. For each engagement, we build an interdisciplinary team comprised of deep subject matter experts armed with data to solve our clients' most complex challenges. We pride ourselves on maintaining valuable, long-term relationships with leading healthcare organizations. Avalere's reputation is built on this solid, proven approach.

We solve problems, convene dialogue, analyze data, anticipate the future, improve communication, and position our clients to lead. We don't advocate, lobby, or play politics. We have strict ethical standards. When you see us in the press, expect neutrality and facts. Integrity in our work also extends to our aspirational vision: to be "the essential voice improving healthcare."

We create practical ideas that improve our customers' positioning. We anticipate change in the healthcare system to make sure that our partners stay ahead of the curve.

We care. Avalere is a great place to work. The work is intellectually challenging, as being close to health system change can be intense. Our community is supportive, with a strong bench of staff. We're also dedicated to helping the DC community outside of our office, and provide financial and in-kind support to a range of charitable groups including Bread for the City.

Our culture is one of close collaboration, candid and constructive feedback, and assignment of responsibilities on ability and availability, without undue emphasis on rank. We prize curiosity, resilience, a positive attitude, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. Join us and get ready to make your mark on healthcare.

I worked at Avalere Health (More than 3 years)

    - The former CEO and founder, Dan Mendelson was generally speaking a nice guy.
    - Most of your colleagues will be smart and hard working.
    - Pay isn’t bad for the work, with opportunities to make a lot of quickly promoted.
    - Workers have flexibility to work from home.

I will keep this short and sweet, as I could find myself writing cons about the company's standards, my personal managers, and the absolute embarrassment my office is:: THIS COMPANY TREATS THEIR STAFF BELOW A VP LIKE CRAP. Also, the bonuses never get paid out fully, because either Avalere and/or the parent company misses their revenue goals.

    Advice to Management

I know how this goes. I worked at Avalere for 3 years and learned a great deal. I have a good job now and thankful for that. However, if I should ever have Avalere as one of my clients, hell hath no fury like a former coworker scorned.

I applied through college or university. The process took 5+ months. I interviewed at Avalere Health (Washington, DC) in March 2012.

Application, including essay; 2:1 phone interview; 5 1:1 in-person interviews, each focusing on a particular value. It's a VERY long day.
