I worked at BJSS full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    NYC Office:
    1. Ability to rotate between different clients over a multi-year period and gain experience with different codebases.
    2. Ability to learn new technologies.
    3. Great experience in technology in the finance space.
    4. It was little bit more diverse than some other small or medium-sized companies. I appreciated that.

    Cons

    1. The office when you are placed on the bench is not the best. But I heard they wiill be getting a new office that is much better.

    Advice to Management

I had read a prior Glassdoor review that did not really enjoy his/her experience at the NYC office. Either management has learned from their mistakes or the reviews resulted from personal differences between Employee and Employer. Either way, I thought that management did a relatively good job during my tenure at the company.

    Junior Software Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in New York, NY
    No Offer
    Neutral Experience

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at BJSS (New York, NY) in September 2018.

    Interview

I applied directly on glass door, and they emailed you to select a time availability two weeks in advance. First they give you an 1 hour written test on some basic Java questions/concepts, then two developers come in and they ask you about your past experiences and projects. Then you are required to draw the software artheciture of a previous project and be able to explain it. Then they ask you follow uptechnical questions. The developers were really friendly and will try to help you during the interview. I did pretty well I would say, since I got an 2nd F2F Interview email the next following day.

The 2nd F2F Interview was mainly behaviorial and cultural fit. The interview went well, the vibe of the conversations were good and I felt like they were really interested in me.

I received a response the next following day, which
was a no. Their reasoning was that I lacked experience and therefore, unqualified for the position.

Why invite me for two interviews but only then to reject me because I lacked experience? No matter how well you did on the interviews, it never mattered because they would then look back at your resume and say oh he doesn't have enough experience. Why waste everyone's time? Keep in mind this is for a Junior Level position. I feel like they never had any intentions in hiring me in the first place. They make you feel like they really want you only then to crush your hopes and dreams.
