Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a prime contractor for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP). We are a project engineering organization responsible for providing design, manufacturing, and procurement management for the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of high quality nuclear power plant components for installation in submarines and aircraft carriers.
BPMI also supports the operating fleet by providing upgraded and replacement components during refueling and overhauls, as well as delivering information technology solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
The nuclear components developed and procured by our team of talented engineers and support people have been used to power huge aircraft carriers and submarines of all types and sizes. Teamwork, cooperation, and the pursuit of excellence have been the driving forces behind the growth and success of BPMI. For more than 50 years, we have been at the forefront of technological and operational innovation.
Since 1956, at the direct request of the Navy's Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, our employees have successfully supported our nation's fleet and sailors in various aspects of the design, development, and continuing support of Naval Nuclear Propulsion (NNPP) equipment—a vital part of our nation's defense. We work with our many partners to deliver and maintain safe, reliable, and cost-effective products that ensure the long-term viability of the NNPP.

With almost 1,000 employees, BPMI has a vibrant culture. Throughout the year, the company hosts a variety of activities for employees and their families — picnics at local amusement parks, skiing, sporting events, and barbeques are just a few of the events organized by the Interest and Events Council. BPMI employees also believe in giving back to the community by volunteering time and offering donations to local organizations.

The culture! BPMI is a positive teaming environment, where you're working together for a common goal. As a defense contractor for the US Navy, there's a high level of pride working for BPMI because we're supporting our military. If you've never worked anywhere else, you may not understand how good the culture truly is. I've worked at 4 places prior, and BPMI's culture is so much better.
The security clearance process does take a while, and you're not allowed to bring your personal cell phone into the building. Some groups have busy seasons based on the cyclical events throughout the year, so there are peaks and valleys of workload.
Advice to Management
Continue to adapt towards the diverse wants and needs of the new generations entering the workforce (Jeans Fridays, flex-time, Keurigs in the kitchenettes, awards & recognition programs).
I was notified by their HR department that even though I am 3 years out of school I was required to send them an official college transcript ($10) that they did not reimburse for. Extremely odd and unprofessional to make people pay to apply to a job before even being considered. I pulled out of he process as it made he company seem very sketchy.
