    I have been working for Becker for a number of years and have seen numerous changes in leadership, product offerings and market conditions. Regardless of the changes Becker has always been a great place to work. Working remotely from home is great and provides a lot of flexibility. Newer leadership is really working to bring the company in the right direction and is willing to invest in the right things to make it happen. Becker is a leader in the marketplace and is growing and that makes it easy to achieve goals and objectives.


    Because Becker is part of big publicly traded company, it is not as nimble as smaller companies, so sometimes change is slower than it would be at a smaller company.

    Advice to Management

    Take a look at enhancing internal support like training, career planning, helpdesk support and integrating technology in business practices, particularly for remote and client facing colleagues, in order to take Becker and Adtalem to the next level as an award winning employer.

    I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Becker Professional Education (Downers Grove, IL) in May 2012.


    Was called by HR & spoke about current salary and expectations. Was asked to take a critical thinking exam online and a personality exam. Arranged for phone interview with hiring manager, but was passed off to a different HR person for details. Spoke with hiring manager (great guy) and was asked to interview in person. Second HR person scheduled for a specific time - then sent an email confirming a different time.

    In person interview was great - consisted of meeting the hiring manager and two other managers, one in the department and another director as well as a skills test. Team is a great group of hard working peope and was I really excited to get involved in such a positive environment.

    Received a callback from 2nd HR person with an offer but was much lower than the range discussed with 1st HR person (total comp offered was lower than I make now - would not have agreed to go further than initial HR contact had this been properly disclosed). I questioned the discrepancy and sent them a few emails as backup and was told 2nd HR person would call me back.

    A day later, 2nd HR person called me. Directly after 2nd HR person said her name and hello, the HR Manager/supervisor cut over (did not announce her name or any greeting of any kind) and demanded to know why I needed the salary range that I originally discussed with 1st HR person (all of this was in my email to 2nd HR person - was very clear that neither of them had actually read anything in the email in detail). When I explained that their benefits don't match my current benefits and that I would need to make that up in base salary, HR Manager seemed offended and got very rude. HR Manager said that they could only consider the absolute lowest end of my original range and that would require a 'salary regrading' of the position. HR Manager said she would email me her contact info if I had any questions - I still have not received it.

    At that point I left a voicemail with the hiring manager thanking him for taking the time to interview with me but I could not accept the position. The team I would work with was excellent and they have a top notch facility, but they are a subsidiary and their corporate parent (where HR is) clearly has a different environment that I would not want to be a part of.

    Originally discussed salary range was not what was offered. HR department seems very disorganized and combative - cannot imagine how they treat actual employees if this is how you talk to a prospective employee.
