Beiersdorf (US) – Why Work For Us?

We Are Skin Care

Beiersdorf Inc. is based in Wilton, CT and was founded in 1973. With our brands Aquaphor, Eucerin, and NIVEA we focus clearly on the needs of our consumers.

Beiersdorf Inc is one of more than 150 international affiliates of the cosmetics company Beiersdorf AG which is based in Hamburg, Germany. For over 130 years, we have dedicated ourselves to meeting our consumers’ individual needs and are a leader in skin care. Our international success is founded on our research and development expertise, our innovative products, and our strong brands. Beiersdorf’s NIVEA is the world’s No.1 skin care brand*. Other names in its successful international brand portfolio include Eucerin, La Prairie, Labello, 8x4, and Hansaplast. Subsidiary tesa SE is one of the world’s leading producers of self-adhesive products and system solutions for industry, craft businesses, and consumers.

Our four Core Values have shaped our corporate culture since the very beginning and are still relevant today. They act as our guiding light and ensure that we speak one language across Beiersdorf. Moreover, they provide us with an orientation for our daily behavior and serve as a benchmark, we can measure ourselves against.

  • Care – We act responsibly towards our colleagues, consumers, brands, our society and our environment.

  • Simplicity – We strive for clarity and consistency, make decisions quickly and pragmatically and focus on what’s essential.

  • Courage – We are committed to bold objectives, take initiative, learn from our mistakes and see change as an opportunity.

  • Trust – We say what we mean, keep our promises and treat others with respect.

Why Beiersdorf?

We have four core values that guide everything we do at Beiersdorf. These are CARE, SIMPLICITY, COURAGE and TRUST – these apply to the way we run our business, the way we treat our employees and the way we want our colleagues to treat one another.

Of these, CARE is closest to our hearts. It’s a two-way street. We care about finding like-minded people, giving them the tools and support they need to develop their careers, providing them with job security and a healthy working environment. In return we expect people to care about their jobs, their colleagues, our brands and our business. If that sounds like the challenge you’re after, read on.

Finding the right people

Recruitment is as much about what we can offer you as what you can offer us. We work hard to recruit people who will suit our culture; those with a can-do attitude, a collaborative approach to work, an emotional attachment to our brands and a true desire to learn and grow. Are you someone that can demonstrate ambition, embrace change and happily take on responsibility? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Continuous development

At Beiersdorf we’re committed to the long-term growth of our employees, developing the majority of our top executives and senior managers from within. Because we hire people who enjoy being challenged, we set ambitious functional and behavioural targets and give individuals a broad scope of responsibility early on. Importantly, to bring them up to speed in their jobs, this is underpinned with functional and cultural onboarding plans, buddy schemes and mentors, constructive feedback and on-going training programmes so people can expand their capabilities and grow in confidence over time. We’re great believers in rewarding achievement and offer on-the-job development and individual career plans to those that deliver. If relevant, we help address skills gaps or individual development areas through formal and informal training and provide mentors and coaches if needed. Our culture is collaborative, and we work as a team to deliver our goals, but we offer plenty of opportunities for individuals to make their mark and grow their careers both nationally and internationally.

Our caring culture

The essence of our corporate culture has changed very little over the past 130 years: We have always been a business that believes in the importance of ‘care’. We care about fostering a culture where individuals are encouraged to champion their own ideas and convictions and inspired to take responsibilities for themselves and their teams. And we’re proud of the fact that our diverse mix of people and inclusive attitude has led to some unexpected collaborations and many exciting innovations.

We keep our structures lean and our hierarchies flat and flexible. And we strive to be open and honest, sincere and straightforward so everyone knows how and where they fit. We recognise too that everyone deserves a fair work:life balance so we work together to devise individual solutions.

As a company that operates across the globe diversity is an important value for us and for the future of our company. Our activities in this area are grouped under the company-wide program "One Team. Living Diversity"

    Average Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took a week. I interviewed at Beiersdorf (US) (Wilton, CT) in March 2017.

The interview process included several components:
After applying I was asked to complete an online test. The test included personality trait questions, numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and logic puzzles. It took about an hour to complete.
If you score well on the test then you're invited to interview. The first interview is a telephone screen with HR. It focused on whether or not I had the ability to do the job so the questions were focused around the job responsibilities. (i.e. Have you managed a budget?)
After the phone screen I was asked to interview with the team. Due to scheduling, I have a phone interview with a Director first. It was a lovely conversation and the questions were behavioral and again focused on my ability to perform the job responsibilities.
After this phone interview I was asked to come into the office for a half day of four interviews and a case. The interviews were three other marketers and a member of HR. Questions were behavioral and "getting to know you" type of questions. For the case I was given sales data and asked to put together a narrative from the data and also compile a list of follow up questions I would want to know.
Overall everyone I met with was incredibly nice and the brands are well-regarded. It was a difficult offer to turn down.
