I worked at Big Blue Bubble full-time

    Pros

Founder of the company knows his stuff and has been making games for 30 years. He shares best practices once in a while but has the expectation and trust that you will run the ship on his behalf. I learned a lot in a short span of time.

    Cons

Being an indie game developer in 2016 is rough as your have to compete with all the large publishers. Management need to share more insights with the greater team.

    Advice to Management

Share more insights with the greater team so they understand the decision process.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Big Blue Bubble (London, ON (Canada)).

    Interview

For a new graduate, the in person interview consists of general background questions and reasons for joining the game industry. Experiences outside of school or courses that could contribute to success to the field were asked about.

It was 1 on 1 directly with the manager making the decision.

Due to the lack of expected industry experience, the programming skills would be proven by writing a simple game after the interview.

    Interview Questions

    • Create Space Invaders using J2ME. There was no time limit, just have to state the hours spent on it with the code zipped and emailed back for review and testing.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

    offer was non-negotiable
