Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Billtrust (United States)

    Interview

    1) Phone call with talent acquisition to go over the role. The recruiter asked for my desired salary on the call. I was sent a link outlining the hiring process.

    2) Interview with hiring manager. The interview was mostly standard but I felt as if I was questioned about whether I really wanted this role. I expressed interest in wanting to learn more technical things and the hiring manager kept emphasizing this was more of a customer support role. I understood that going in since I have years of experience in roles that are a mix of technical/customer support.

    I wasn't surprised when I received a rejection email about a week after.

    If I had gone to the next step, there would have been a team interview.
