Where we came from, and where we're going
We were founded in 1988 by eight people in a single room in New York City, who believed they could build a better asset management firm. One that would put our clients' needs and interests first, that was dedicated to fact-based, data-driven investing, innovative thinking, and a passion for understanding and managing risk.
Fast-forward almost 30 years later, BlackRock is still founder-led. Despite having grown to 13,000+ employees and becoming the largest asset manager in the world, we haven’t lost our entrepreneurial, start-up spirit. As we continuously evolve and adapt, technology plays an increasingly important role in how we conduct our business and serve our clients.

BlackRock is a place where you can build a great career. You will be working with the brightest and hardest working individuals in the industry. I have been with BlackRock for 10 years and have had the opportunity to continually feel challenged and grow. I am constantly put on new projects and have my responsibilities rotated. Through all of this they have taken good care of me through a total compensation that includes awesome benefits and generous financial incentives.
Hours can be long, you are expected to get the job done and although they recognize and reward hard work the expectation is high to ensure your working to your highest potential.
I applied online. I interviewed at BlackRock.
I got a code assessment to solve. I did well and then moved to next step which is an invitation to interview event. I was surprised that they offered no reimbursement for travel. They expected me to travel from DC to Seattle and pay for the expenses myself!!! Ridiculous right! Of course, I refused. What kind of company expects applicants to pay around $1000 to get interviewed?
