Voted one of the Healthiest Employers in 2015 by the Boston Business Journal, we take pride in our wellness-focused culture, and believe every member of our team deserves to enjoy a positive work-life balance. There are various elements that play a major role in shaping our culture, including:

Healthy offices

In Hingham, Quincy, and Boston, we provide associate amenities such as sit-to-stand desks, treadmill workstations, company-subsidized healthy cafeteria fare, access to an on-site dietician, and open, collaborative spaces. Read more here.

Wellness Centers

In each of our three main offices, we provide meditation spaces, yoga and Zumba classes, as well as stretching and strength building workshops. Locker rooms at each office location allow employees to work up a sweat during mid-day exercise breaks, and return to their work duties feeling clean and refreshed.

Parental Leave

Paid time off for both parents is a critical benefit to associates with growing families. In 2015, we announced a new parental leave benefit of four weeks paid time off for the birth or adoption of a child in addition to our company short-term disability plan.

We provide benefits that help our associates to easily access our three offices located along the South Shore and in Boston. Whether our associates are driving or using public transportation, we have a generous benefit that will fit their commuting preference.

Onsite, Priority Placement and Back-Up Child Care

We support working moms and dads who help diversify and strengthen our organization. Our childcare benefits aim to increase ease, and decrease stress, so our associates can manage their work lives and home lives, without missing a beat.

Planning for retirement is paramount for associates at any level in their career. We offer generous 401(K) and pension plans to help associates save for, and enjoy the future .Additionally, we offer incentive compensation plans, an employee assistance program, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and much more.

Tuition benefit

We support our employees in their pursuit of continuing education. We leverage relationships with multiple institutions in Massachusetts to provide discounted tuition prices. Additionally, our tuition reimbursement plan allows flexibility for all types of learning opportunities that can work with any schedule.

Professional Growth

Developing the professional skills of our associates is a cornerstone of our culture. We invest in our talent through multiple job rotation programs, such as the Finance Development and Corporate Leadership Rotation programs, which provide our associates with opportunities to gain new skills, and leverage their strengths in new roles.

Development. It Happens Here. Learn more about our culture and employment opportunities.

We embed diversity and inclusion into all our organizational practices. At Blue Cross, we encourage fresh thinking by looking for talented people who can help us challenge the conventional ways of doing business.

Through initiatives like the annual Women@Blue conference and quarterly facilitated Diversity Dialogues, we’ve created an open and inclusive culture that is winning us awards—like the 2014 Workforce Diversity Initiative Award from the Boston Business Journal.

Initiatives like our Employee Resource Groups encourage our associates to bring their whole selves to work. These groups bring together associates with shared characteristics, affinities, or life experiences. Co-led by associates and supported by a cross-functional advisory committee, the groups meet monthly to plan events and discuss topics important to their membership.

Current groups include: Empowering Abilities, BluePride, Black Professionals Network, Asian Blue Community, AzulLatino, and the Young Professionals Network.

Opportunity. It Happens Here. Learn more about our diversity and inclusion programs.

Our goal is to help people in every community thrive as healthy and engaged citizens. By supporting programs and organizations that champion healthy activities, healthy eating, and healthy environments, the work we accomplish together will create a lasting impact on every person we reach.

One example of our passion is our annual Service Day. Our associates and senior leaders spend a day immersed in volunteering to help one of our many community-based partners. Additionally, associates have 15 hours of paid time off to volunteer throughout the year with one of our partners as a member of the BlueCrew team.

We are constantly thinking of new ways to provide our associates with outlets to give back to our community. One example is our Skills-Based Volunteer Program, which connects the skills and expertise of our employees with the capacity-building needs of our nonprofit partners. Another example is our Community Garden at our Hingham office that gives associates a chance to exercise their green thumb, and literally enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Collaboration. It Happens Here. Learn more about our corporate citizenship programs.

Health care is transforming, and we’re at the forefront of innovation with new ideas that deliver our promise and vision to the communities we serve.

In 2008, we introduced a payment reform model, called the Alternative Quality Contract, to reward doctors for delivering high-quality patient care, keeping our members healthy, and moderating health care costs.

In 2014, a four-year study concluded that our model works. Currently one of the largest private payment reform initiatives in the United States, the Alternative Quality Contract is now the model for state and national policymakers.

We are constantly on the lookout for new services to better serve our members. By partnering with health care start-ups, Zaffre Investments is diversifying our business practices while supporting development of new services to improve our members’ health care experiences.

Innovation. It Happens Here. Find out about how Blue Cross is innovating in health care.

    Easy Interview

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Boston, MA) in April 2017.

What a joke. The recruiter I dealt with was a complete flake. It would take her days to respond to an email even though I would respond within minutes of receiving hers. She blew me off twice when she had scheduled times and never once apologized. Today, she was only 20 minutes late calling for the screener. She obviously did not understand the role and did not thoroughly review my resume beforehand. The kicker? The comp plan is about 20% below market rates. What a joke.
