Mission: We commit to being our members’ trusted partner by providing affordable, innovative products that improve their care and health.
We aspire to be clear and simple, to help you make the right choices, to offer valuable coverage, and help you get ...
If you only think health insurance when you think of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, we’re OK with that.
After all, our roots go back to the first health insurance plans in the U.S. These plans were created nearly a century ago for working people—teachers, miners and lumberjacks who just wanted affordable, quality health care.
A lot has changed since then. Health care reform is bringing more change. Our company is changing, too. We became a nonprofit mutual company in 2014. This means that our members now have a stronger voice.
At the same time, there's much that hasn't changed: the need for affordable, quality health care and our role as a leader in helping Michigan residents get that care. We continue to be the largest health insurer in the state.
Our unique vision and mission means we can bring the best of both worlds to our members and their communities:
When you think of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for health insurance, you can know you’re getting much more. We're a company founded on a tradition of affordable, quality health care for everyone, improving the present and investing in the future. Some things never change.
We commit to being our members’ trusted partner by providing affordable, innovative products that improve their care and health.

At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, we are creating a culture of acceptance, understanding, and cultural competency. Cultural competency helps us do our jobs better and provide the best in customer service and every employee plays a significant role in that.
We are also committed to ensuring a workplace as diverse as the communities we serve, an environment that is inclusive and provides an opportunity for everyone to be their very best and share their talents and skills.
Leadership for diversity and inclusion starts at the very top at Blue Cross. Our president and CEO, Daniel J. Loepp has a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and established a Diversity Leadership Council to guide our strategy and efforts. The council is made up of executives from different areas of the organization. They help employees understand diversity and inclusion.
In addition to the leadership of the Diversity Leadership Council, the following committees at all levels of the organization help facilitate our efforts:
We reinforce our commitment through diversity training. It's essential for our business growth and support of our members.
Our employee resource networks strengthen this commitment. The networks bring together employees who have a common interest. They promote diversity, create professional development opportunities and provide fresh perspectives to make our business better.
Some of our events that expand cultural awareness are:
The diversity in our workforce:
At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, we’re proud of the diversity in our workforce. Over 40 percent of our employees are people of color and 73 percent of our employees are women.
We have gender equality in our leadership positions:

I have been working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan full-time (Less than a year)
Love my job. I am fortunate enough to be in the mix with a great team of many professionals who are passionate about their work. A lot of flexibility in work hours and management takes work/life balance seriously. Benefits are awesome and there are a lot of opportunities to learn, serve the local community and get fit.
The only downside for me is the commute.
I applied online. I interviewed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Asked what my background was, what knowledge I had in claims processing, etc. They also asked about my experience and whether I had background in computer science. They asked also about my data analytics skills.
