I worked at Boys and Girls Aid (More than a year)
Working with youth, learning about how youth are placed and supporting them through positive mentorship. Colleagues were great and most were very good with the youth and respected the youth in actions and conversations.
Low pay, high emotional labor, some staff felt undervalued. Youth came with high levels of trauma and long trauma histories, staff could have used trauma informed care training and opportunities to process their own trauma or trauma cues.
Advice to Management
Share with staff that they are valued and respected. Try to engage in activities that allow staff to feel ownership and autonomy in their work.
