Brown-Forman is a diversified producer of fine quality consumer products. It was founded in 1870 by George Garvin Brown in Louisville, KY, U.S. His original brand, Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky, was America's first bottled bourbon and remains one of Brown-Forman's finest brands today. Geo. Garvin Brown IV, a descendant of the founder, is part of the 5th generation of Brown Family members engaged with the company and serves as the Presiding Chairman of the Board.
Brown-Forman employs over 4,600 people worldwide with about 1,000 located in Louisville. Brown-Forman, one of the largest American-owned spirits and wine companies and among the top 10 largest global spirits companies, sells its brands in more than 160 countries and has offices in cities across the globe. In all, Brown-Forman has more than 25 brands in its portfolio of wines and spirits.
Over many years, Brown-Forman has developed and nurtured a set of core values that have become deeply ingrained in our consciousness and our culture. These time-honored values — integrity, respect, trust, teamwork, and excellence — remain real and relevant today, guiding us in the conduct of our day-to-day business.
Brown-Forman's brand of culture is a direct reflection of the company's identity and image, and our deeply held traditional core values of integrity, respect, trust, teamwork, and excellence. You'll notice our culture clearly emerging in the way we treat our employees, shareholders, customers, and communities.
We believe that the collective wisdom of all employees is far superior to the individual intellect of any one person. The result is a collegial company where employees depend on each other to be successful. We focus on teamwork, a hallmark of our corporate culture that extends beyond our own employees to our suppliers, trade partners, and other stakeholders around the world.
We expect our employees to be honest with themselves and with one another. As part of this emphasis, we actively promote an atmosphere where feedback is encouraged and commonplace.
Brand building and culture are indelibly linked at Brown-Forman. By embedding a unique corporate aesthetic within our culture, we speak to Brown-Forman's enduring values and relevance — creating and cultivating a greater cohesive presence for the company and its consumer brands.
At Brown-Forman, we focus on developing the people who build our brands. We begin by recruiting and hiring people of the highest quality and character and then help these talented people grow through formalized professional development programs, such as our award-winning Brand Building University. Less formal training, such as peer-to-peer coaching and our mentoring program, reinforces our guiding philosophy to constantly encourage and enable our employees to grow, learn, and realize their full potential.
We believe having a diverse workforce honors the wealth of unique experiences that each of us brings to work and respects our differences as people. Inclusion unleashes the power of diversity by creating a culture that empowers all employees to fully express themselves and feel comfortable being who they are while contributing their talents to the business. By promoting diversity, educating our workforce, and creating a culture of inclusion, we continue to develop the people who build our brands.
Our vision is to create an environment where leveraging diversity and inclusion occurs naturally in the pursuit of organizational objectives.
Our mission is to create an inclusive culture that values diversity and encourages trust, openness and mutual support in order to build high performing teams comprised of diverse skills, cultures and experiences; demonstrate diversity and inclusion leadership across our business; and be recognized both internally and externally as one of the best places to work.

We are making Brown-Forman a great place to work for everyone. Our focus in this area is on increasing workforce diversity within Brown-Forman at all levels of employment, including senior management and executive roles, for ethnic minorities, LGBT, women, and all generations.
We are working to increase the relevance and appeal of our brands to diverse consumer groups. Our focus is on communicating the relevance of our brands to ethnic minorities, LGBT, women, and all generations so that they will be motivated to try our products and become loyal consumers.
We believe that extending opportunities to women and minority business enterprises (W/MBE) is simply good business, on a number of different levels. Diverse suppliers often provide companies with cost savings as well as innovative approaches to business. Every time we support a W/MBE we also develop additional brand loyalty which is in direct support of our strategic imperatives.
We are expanding our community giving to benefit the diverse populations in the communities where our employees live, work and raise their families. Our focus is on increasing our level of corporate contributions to programs and services that enhance the quality of life for ethnic minorities, LGBT, and women. We also encourage employees at all levels to volunteer to ensure our corporate presence is actively making a positive difference in the diverse communities in which we live, operate, and do business.

Balancing the needs and interests of our employees with those of the company is important to us. We want to attract and retain the best and brightest people in order to be the best brand builder in the industry.
We encourage our people to find balance in their personal and professional lives, and we seek to compensate them well for their hard work. To that end, we offer a great, competitive pay package along with a full slate of benefits that provide financial security and assistance for employees and their families throughout all stages of life.

I have been working at Brown-Forman full-time (More than 3 years)
BF has a great culture. You hear that from everyone that works here, and I'll admit, it creeped me out for the first few months because you keep thinking, "Is everyone this nice and compassionate?" The answer is a resounding "YES!" I feel more connected to the community and love all of the volunteer opportunities we are presented here. Participating in the PRIDE festival and having such a large presence is something I would have never dreamed that an employer would promote. It's a great feeling to be supported no matter who you are and where you came from. Pay seems to be very fair compared to other places. Most people here work to live and not the other way around. Relationship building is a huge part of Brown Forman. I've met people and learned about all aspects of business and departments that I may never directly work with. Seeing what other groups are doing is all about getting you out of your bubble and learning as much as you want about the business here. I work in Global Production and could easily keep to myself but making connections throughout the organization has really helped me see a bigger picture and objectives of Brown Forman.
I want to preface the cons with saying that even the worst day at Brown Forman are 10x better than most people's every day job. Cons exist everywhere and there is always room for improvement in any organization.
-grey areas in career paths, not a clear structure
-hard to get buy-in from middle managment for non-direct business tasks (ie particpating in all the extracurricular/ value added programs BF offers to employees)
-always striving to do more work with less headcount
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Brown-Forman (Louisville, KY) in March 2016.
It began with a survey submitted to the recruiter, a phone interview with the recruiter and subsequent phone interview with the hiring manager, and then an in person interview with management and stakeholders
