Brown-Forman – Why Work With Us?

His original brand, Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky, was America’s first bottled bourbon and remains one of Brown-Forman’s finest brands today. Geo. Garvin Brown IV, a descendant of the founder, is part of the 5th generation of Brown Family members engaged with Brown-Forman, a publicly traded, family-controlled company, and serves as the presiding Chairman of the Board.

Brown-Forman employs more than 4,700 people worldwide. Brown-Forman, one of the largest American-owned spirits and wine companies and among the top 10 largest global spirits companies, sells its brands in countries around the world and has offices in cities across the globe. In all, Brown-Forman has more than 25 brands in its portfolio of wines and spirits.

In 2020, Brown-Forman celebrates its 150th Anniversary. It's a year of stories, events, and gatherings to reflect and unify for the road ahead.

It’s an exciting time to recognize the company’s historical achievements, as well as appreciate and share in its legacy. Brown-Forman was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, when he became the first person to sell whiskey in sealed, glass bottles. Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey became the flagship brand for a company that would flourish for the next 150 years.

This founding commitment to “nothing better in the market” holds true today, for our company, our brands, and our people.

Our Values

Our past is defined by generations of visionary individuals and decades of progress. Our future will be determined by continuity in our direction, commitment to our strategies, and confidence in our capabilities.

Over many years, Brown-Forman has developed and nurtured a set of core values that have become deeply ingrained in our consciousness and our culture. These time-honored values — integrity, respect, trust, teamwork, and excellence — remain real and relevant today, guiding us in the conduct of our day-to-day business.

Our Culture

Brown-Forman's brand of culture is a direct reflection of the company's identity and image, and our deeply held traditional core values. You'll notice our culture clearly emerging in the way we treat our employees, shareholders, customers, and communities.

We believe that the collective wisdom of all employees is far superior to the individual intellect of any one person. The result is a collegial company where employees depend on each other to be successful. We focus on teamwork, a hallmark of our corporate culture that extends beyond our own employees to our suppliers, trade partners, and other stakeholders around the world.

We expect our employees to be honest with themselves and with one another. As part of this emphasis, we actively promote an atmosphere where feedback is encouraged and commonplace.

Brand building and culture are indelibly linked at Brown-Forman. By embedding a unique corporate aesthetic within our culture, we speak to Brown-Forman's enduring values and relevance — creating and cultivating a greater cohesive presence for the company and its consumer brands.

At Brown-Forman, we are committed to developing the people who build our brands. We begin by recruiting and hiring people of the highest quality and character and then giving them the on-the-job experiences, personal connections and formal training necessary to grow, learn, and realize their full potential.

Recognizing that leaders set the tone for the organization, we are firmly committed to leader development. Our award-winning global leadership development programs build leader capabilities, create experiences to learn and grow, and foster connections across the organization. The programs enable leaders to thrive at every stage of their leadership journey...and help build a culture where every employee can be their best self.

Our People

We are making Brown-Forman a great place to work for everyone. Our focus in this area is on increasing workforce diversity within Brown-Forman at all levels of employment, including senior management and executive roles, for ethnic minorities, LGBT, women, and all generations.

We believe having a diverse workforce honors the wealth of unique experiences that each of us brings to work and respects our differences as people. By promoting diversity, educating our workforce, and creating a culture of inclusion, we continue to develop the people who build our brands.

Employee Resource Groups

In developing the best diversity and inclusion tradition at Brown-Forman, we have created eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) open to all of our employees globally. By joining and interacting with other members of these groups, our employees have the opportunity to enrich both their working experience and our company overall.

Our Brands

We are working to increase the relevance and appeal of our brands to diverse consumer groups. Our focus is on communicating the relevance of our brands to ethnic minorities, LGBTQ, women, and all generations so that they will be motivated to try our products and become loyal consumers.

Our Partners

We believe that extending opportunities to women and minority business enterprises (W/MBE) is simply good business, on a number of different levels. Diverse suppliers often provide companies with cost savings as well as innovative approaches to business. Every time we support a W/MBE we also develop additional brand loyalty which is in direct support of our strategic imperatives.

We are expanding our community giving to benefit the diverse populations in the communities where our employees live, work and raise their families. Our focus is on increasing our level of corporate contributions to programs and services that enhance the quality of life for ethnic minorities, LGBTQ, and women. We also encourage employees at all levels to volunteer to ensure our corporate presence is actively making a positive difference in the diverse communities in which we live, operate, and do business.

I have been working at Brown-Forman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is a company where values drive the business, from the shareholders and the CEO down the entire organisation. This is truly unique in the business and great to work for ! It is also genuinely sincere, unlike other companies where it is often just for political correctness.

    Cons

No real cons actually. Having worked for other companies before, it feels great to be within a company where human beings do matter.
