We work hard to improve lives and build communities. That’s why we founded Buckingham Foundation in 2006. We work to create a positive change in affordable housing, community and economic development as well as the arts and culture. Our team members care about the communities that they work in, and the numbers prove it.
Buckingham employees annually volunteer over 7,000 hours of time and contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to over 50 different organizations. Numbers and statistics are intricate to our business as real estate professionals, but these are the numbers that we're most proud of each year. Learn more about Buckingham Foundation or contribute to our cause at BuckinghamFoundationInc.org.
At Buckingham, our standard is to push the standard. We take a custom approach to all of our projects, big or small. Real estate is an investment and it's our number one priority to maximize that investment.
Through expertise, research, and inspired design, we create a personalized experience for residents and guests. To our team, it's more than just development, construction and property management; it's about creating a superior environment to live, stay or play. It's this approach that is what makes us a partner you can count on and it has helped us grow from a modest rental company in 1984 to a company that today manages nearly $1 billion in real estate assets.
At Buckingham, an entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and passion blend with unparalleled industry expertise and management systems to deliver exceptional results. Our people drive our success. We strive to never settle. That’s what makes us Buckingham.
Buckingham takes a unique approach to the real estate industry. We build, develop and manage buildings, but more importantly we create environments for people to live life to the fullest. One way we set ourselves apart is through artistic inspiration. Design, culture, public art, green space and sense of community are essential in our design/build process. Check out CityWay, a mixed use neighborhood downtown Indianapolis, and home to The Alexander, a beautifully designed hotel with art at its very core. With more than 50 works of art by 25 contemporary artists and 14 site-specific commissioned works curated by the Indianapolis Museum of Art. At Buckingham, art is in everything we do.
Including student housing, boutique hotels, market rate & affordable residential communities, and mixed-use midrise buildings; we have our fingers, and toes, in it all. By not focusing on one aspect of the real estate sphere, we are able to add value to everything we develop, construct or manage. We give our employees an opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of experiences, which helps them thrive in their careers.
When you work at Buckingham, it’s more than just a job in the real estate industry – it’s about joining a culture of improving the places we love. That’s why we’re constantly seeking creative minds to add to our construction, development, and property and investment management teams. We’re seeking innovative, energetic, passionate, free thinkers that like to solve problems and love creating solutions. We take pride in everything we do and never settle. If that’s you, drop us a line. We look forward to hearing from you.
Carmen has been a team member at Buckingham for over 24 years. She was one of the first employees hired at Buckingham, happily receiving the company’s first accounting records in a shoebox. In addition to her informal role as company historian, Carmen oversees Buckingham management’s corporate and property accounting operations, including our in-house management accounting staff, auditors, consultants, and accounting advisors. Carmen’s loyalty and dedication to the company is only second to her vast knowledge of our operations from development to stabilization. Carmen's attention to detail is only matched by her exceptional level of customer service. With over 30 years of accounting experience, Carmen’s proudest accomplishment isn’t bringing Buckingham into the excel age, it’s raising two wonderful daughters with her husband - and you can’t assign a number to that.
I have been working at Buckingham Companies full-time (More than 5 years)
As a working mom I so appreciate the flexibility of my role. The focus on PEOPLE is smart business and genuine in daily operations. I respect and understand the vision of the company and feel that I am a part of the big picture. I love the commitment to the community via Buckingham Foundation and staff volunteerism. I applaud the creative work we do and the lives we positively impact. I truly enjoy my work family and the opportunities Buckingham has given me.
I cannot think of any cons. I would encourage forward-thinking decision-makers who are able to take risks, raise the bar and learn each and every day to consider employment with Buckingham Companies.
I applied through other source. I interviewed at Buckingham Companies in May 2017.
HR department personally reached out to me, the position hadn't really been advertised anywhere at the time, then an in person interview with Architect, then final round interview with Architect, HR, Development.
For the most part everything went smoothly though I was expected to bring an academic portfolio (I haven't been in university for almost 6 years) as they were uninterested in my work sample portfolio (of things that were actually built). This irked the architect at the interview but none of this was specified to me before the interview. Architect had a prickly and somewhat dull personality. Made it to final round of interviewing process, only 1 other applicant remained. Interview was with Architect again, as well as Development and HR. Everything went very well. Then I never heard back from them, I attempted communication with various members of HR as well as the Architects asst. but still nothing, then weeks after my final email I received a response that they had decided to go another direction. Turns out neither myself nor the other applicant at the final round were hired.
They are currently still looking to fill the position, that they lead me to believe was an urgent need (it's been 6 months now).
Aside from the architect everyone at the company seemed very pleasant and happy. The company produces mostly great projects (albeit using absurd amounts of TIF money) and I probably would have liked working here but the Architect as well as lack of communication after the final round of interviews was strange and unnecessary.
