I worked at CSU Sacramento Office of Water Programs as an intern (Less than a year)
OWP is a great internship for Civil Engineering Majors. When it is busy the researchers rely a lot on the Engineering Interns for assistance. This gives the interns a lot of hands on experience. The atmosphere is very laid back. A lot of the Engineers there are also professors at Sac State so they are teachers at heart which is awesome.
When it is slow, it is really slow. It is consulting work so you have to be able to bill to an account. When it gets slow it becomes kind of competitive for work. They really don't hire recent grads either. They mostly hire researchers with a min of a masters degree. This job probably wont lead into a full-time paid position when you graduate.
Advice to Management
Hire only the amount of interns needed. When you hire too many it becomes harder for everyone to find work.
