I have been working at California Language Institute (Japan) full-time (More than 3 years)
The benefits that we get here (including pay, free accommodation, and holiday time) are so much better than anything from other English language schools in Japan. Having spoken with friends who teach at other companies, I`m really glad that I went for California Language Institute.
You are given a lot of freedom in your work when teaching in the classroom.
You need to travel to different places every day to get to the places where you`ll be teaching. I actually really like this, and I use train journeys for lesson planning or for studying Japanese, but if you don`t like travelling by train or bus, then this job may not be for you.
I`ve worked with some people at this company who come out for a holiday, don`t do any work, complain a lot about having to work, and sometimes leave the job early. These are the people who tend to write negative things on forums like this one.
Advice to Management
Don`t pay any attention to people who complain about doing the job that they were employed to do in the first place.
I applied online. I interviewed at California Language Institute (Japan).
Interview takes about an hour and a half. Fairly easy going conversation. The employer will go through a common day of work and their expectations. Employer asked if you can commit to 12 months, why teaching, do you like to work with kids etc....
