I worked at Cantor Fitzgerald full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A changing culture with a strong and well thought out message for the future direction is the firm has been well articulated for those with a seat. Recent positive changes: Cantor bolstered its financial resources and is now Investment Grade rated. A new obsession around a client first oriented focus is emerging. If you have good motives, you are given the flexibility to “try hard and fail”. A new and renewed Prime Brokerage effort is in play with Prime Services veteran Jon Yalmokas. A strong “sector focus” push in play for cash equity trading. A mantra of “Build, Grow, Invest” has begun to bear fruit. If you are a self-motivator, you can thrive at Cantor. Very strong and competent compliance team.

    Cons

A little more structure for new folks wouldn’t hurt, perhaps a “Cantor Playbook” with a listing of department heads with group bios and the like would be helpful. Helping employees navigate the various products and services would be helpful.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps more “atta boys” to employees is merited. We don’t see a lot of top brass mingling with the trading floor(s) very often. A quarterly walk of the floor with some high fives and pats on the back go a long way. Semi-annual “town halls” (could e by telephone) also helpful. Everyone needs to own the corporate vision, all the way down to the cleaning crew. One team, one dream.

    Software Engineer Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Cantor Fitzgerald (New York, NY) in May 2018.

    Interview

Their initial interview was in person only, no phone screen and it was arranged by a 3rd party recruiter. I met with two gentleman, one led the interview and the other mostly observed. After some overview of my own work I was asked details on implementation and was given paper to diagram as I saw fit. There was then a barrage of technical questions to which "I don't know" didn't appear to be an entirely acceptable answer. I also could hardly finish my response before another technical question was thrown my way.

Additionally, the role was not at all what was descibed to me, not sure where to place the blame for that. I was told they were looking for a software engineer, specifically junior around 1 to 3 yrs experience. Turns out after discussing with the interviewer they want that AND someone to also have ownership over assisting in getting automation QA off the ground and devops.

Overall negative first impression and I indicated that I was no longer interested in pursuing the role.
