I have been working at CareerBuilder full-time (More than 10 years)
It's still a great, collaborative atmosphere where most people you encounter genuinely try to help you. People are free to share their opinions and ideas are listened to.
The recent acquisition by new owners still hangs a cloud over the short and long-term future of working here. There's clearly been a change in direction/strategy which has led to lay-offs, perks being taken away and general cost-tightening with regards to travel/entertainment. Time will tell whether these are the biggest changes or over time we become a much different company than we were...
Advice to Management
People are still behind the company but the potential gradual erosion of our culture is the number 1 concern I am hearing. Long standing employees don't stay here for the salaries, which are still below market value despite the spin we are given, they work for the work/life balance, perks and open/relaxed culture. If you lose this you will lose people and everything that makes CB special.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at CareerBuilder.
I am highly unimpressed with the interview process at CareerBuilder. I was an internal referral and my resume was passed along to the hiring manager. This individual reached out to me almost two months ago to set up an initial interview and said my resume was a perfect fit. Since then, she has cancelled on me three times and now has decided to tell me they won't be doing any hiring this year. This is extremely unprofessional, especially being that I was a referral from two of their current employees. I understand that CareerBuilder is going through some changes internally, especially with a recent buy out, but the number one rule in recruiting is to always be candid with your candidates and keep them informed, especially when they have taken away time from their job to talk with you. If this is how CareerBuilder treats their current employee referrals, I can't imagine how they treat you once your onboard. Glad to have dodged a bullet on this individuals team.
