Approximately 10% of the earth’s sedimentary rock is limestone, mostly formed millions of years ago in shallow oceans from the accumulation and compaction of shell and coral. Humans have been heating limestone in kilns for over 7,000 years to turn it into lime with many of these ancient structures still standing today. Limestone and lime are essential components to many of the products we use in our everyday life. Some examples include:

  • Concrete mixes, asphalts and soil stabilization to support the roads we drive on and other building structures
  • All types of glass and ceramics for our windows, coffee mugs, plates, glasses…
  • Manufacturing of steel for the cars we drive, buildings we work in and the bridges we drive over
  • Carpets and paints that make our houses warm and inviting
  • Sugars and breads that stimulate our taste buds
  • Paper for us to record our memorable experiences
  • Agriculture to help grow food in areas that were not suitable

Lime and limestone also contributes to making a better world by:

  • Purifying the water we drink
  • Treating waste water prior to disposal
  • Preventing acid rain by removing smoke stack emissions
  •  Neutralizing acids in water draining from mines
  • Providing much needed calcium to domesticated animals to strengthen bones and egg shells, and as a calcium supplement to dairy cattle
  • Improving air in mines for breathing and minimizing risk for explosion

Do you want to be a part of a team contributing to a better world in so many different ways? Working at Carmeuse offers you that opportunity.

I have been working at Carmeuse full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been here for more than 10 years and have many opportunities to develop, grow, and be promoted. The pay and benefits are great, including raises and very competitive bonuses. The support from front-line management, middle management, and upper management is great.

By far the best place I've ever worked and I'd highly recommend to anyone.

    Cons

There are no cons in my opinion.

    Advice to Management

A lot has been done over the past 2 years to improve communications and "working together". Also, much has been done to improve engagement. Please continue to move these things forward. Employee engagement activities and open communications are critical.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Carmeuse (Pittsburgh, PA) in April 2017.

    Interview

The interview process first started with a phone interview with the hr manager then the following week I had a phone interview with the department managers. Then I was scheduled to have an in person interview in Pittsburgh. I ended up not filling through with the last interview due to unforeseen circumstances. Very great communication with the HR staff. I really think it would have been a great company to work for.
