  1. Shoreside Management-level Role Interview

    Anonymous Employee in United Kingdom
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview
    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Carnival (United Kingdom)

    Interview

High- pressure video questions against the clock. If you pass that phase, it’s followed by an in-person interview + detailed presentation, mining the best ideas from the ‘all-too-willing’ candidates.

The video questions are obviously to help them screen a high volume of applications - but it’s a horrific candidate experience. If reflects a company who don’t place any value on genuine human-to-human relationships - but prefers robots who can regurgitate corporate nonsense on the spot & pass it off as genuine insight.

The automated system gives you 3 attempts to record a 120sec answer to a question (whilst watching a ticking clock and the live video image of yourself). You can’t answer them fully in 120secs, but they want to see how you cope under pressure, which seems fair enough - but tells you everything you need to know about the kind of working environment they have created.

Once faceless individuals have dismissed 95% of the candidates based on their 120sec video submissions - they’ll then invite the remaining candidates to a traditional in-person interview, and to present their detailed suggestions for answering some of the company’s most pressing challenges…

After gathering all these ideas FOC - they’ll most-likely offer the job to an internal candidate they had in mind from the outset (in my interview, the hiring manager let slip that this was the most likely outcome).

I asked for feedback, but it was lazy, generic, and unhelpful.
