Company Updates

  • It's been a busy August for Carvana Co-Founders Ernie Garcia, Ryan Keeton and Ben Huston - from the cover of the Phoenix Business Journal, to the pages of Fortune's 40 Under 40 issue, the world is learning more about what all of us here at Carvana already know: we're making car buying fun again, while saving people valuable time and money. Congrats, guys!

E-mail Tweet Facebook Linkedin Garcia was working at an auto-financing company when he saw an opportunity in updating the car-buying experience that was "so big and so clear" he jumped. Three years after spinning out of DriveTime, Garcia, along with cofounders Huston and Keeton, have turned Carvana into a publicly traded company valued at more than $2 billion.

Carvana – Why Work For Us?

Disrupting the auto industry

Our goal is to change the way people search, finance and buy used vehicles. We are replacing plaid suits, gold chains and a miserable 4-hour in-store process with technology that allows for customers to buy a car in as little as 11 minutes (not typical, but it has happened)! This means we are a disrupter – a company full of builders, doers and a whole lotta boundary pushers. We’re a passionate bunch that is constantly looking for other passionate people to work alongside us and help to develop something amazing!

People come first

Carvana is a company founded on transparency and the idea that people come first. These are the ideals that we strive for with our customers, but also with our employees. Creating an environment where people are challenged, excited, empowered and valued is of the utmost importance to us.

We dig good people

We will hire quality character over skill set every single time. We like people who are tenacious, confident, respectful and can crack a well-timed witty joke or two. If you like people and enjoy a positive (along with a challenging and fun) work environment – we dig you!

Carvana is headquartered in the Valley of the Sun - Phoenix, AZ. Headquarters is home to our customer advocates, people operations, marketing, leadership, title and registration, finance and accounting, analytics, inventory, and IT teams! This bunch is best known for wearing wacky pants and making waffles the first Wednesday of every month, hosting ping pong and corn hole tournaments, and organizing health and wellness activities such as group hikes and workout classes.

Carvana’s hub locations are where you’ll find our top notch operational teams! These folks are responsible for delivering vehicles, running appointments for pickups from our state-of-the-art Car Vending Machines, and being gurus of logistics and scheduling. Hubs are known for FitBit competitions, family dinners, and community events that involve wearing stylish capes and wavy guy costumes.

Inspection Centers

Curious about where our 150-point inspections take place? At our inspection centers, of course! We hire the best mechanics, auto detailers, and cosmetic professionals to make our vehicles operate as great as they look. Speaking of looking great, this is also where our vehicles (and sometimes our employees…) get their modeling debut in our 360-degree photo studio!

I worked at Carvana full-time (More than a year)

The company is growing pretty rapidly, tripled in size in just two years, so it allows a lot of space to move around or try new things. The benefits are great, arcade games, social hours, free healthcare if you’re single with no kids, all the free food you can practically eat (people actually gain weight after working there). Overall very young employee population and everyone is pretty close.

A number of managers are managers simply based on tenure which isn’t always great, if they don’t promote you they try to discover some obscene reason as to why they didn’t, rapidly growing results in changes literally daily (you’ll get official emails 2-3 times a day notifying you of these changes) and the grow also means they’re drastically short staffed with 30 callers sitting in queue a consistent feature (despite them winding down on hiring).

    Advice to Management

Focus on manager development and either keep hiring or stop growing so rapidly. No aspect of the company can catch its breath when it’s just non-stop moving and you’be stopped hiring more.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Carvana (Phoenix, AZ) in February 2016.

I spoke to one of the recruiters over the phone. They then set up an in-person interview, where I was tentatively scheduled to interview with four people, but the first two interviews ran long (90 minutes total). They went over my background, over the job itself, and asked standard questions. After that was a second in-person interview.
