Cengage – Why Work With Us?

At Cengage, we are united by a single belief: Every student has the potential to be unstoppable.

We see a world where every student is a confident learner. Where all learners are propelled by the power of education. A world where they get further with every question, sharper with every lesson and stronger with every challenge. A world of acceleration, advancement and ambition. We see a world where students have the audacity to know their potential and the tenacity to make it real. So that no matter where they go or what they strive for, they will be unstoppable.

Who We Are

Cengage is the education and technology company built for learners.

What We Do

We create learning experiences that build confidence and momentum toward the future students want.

Why We Do It

Confident students are successful learners, so we design tools that keep them moving toward their goals.

How We Do It

  • Our flexible learning tools give students access to content where and when they need it, so that they can learn in sync with their work, school and life.
  • Our immersive experiences let students go deep and master concepts so that they don’t just get the grade they want; they gain skills for life.
  • Our on-demand customer service offers students and faculty the support they need to solve any problem and keep moving forward.

Around Cengage

Our culture fosters collaboration at every turn. Instead of offices with closed doors, you’ll find open minds ready to work together to transform education, with everyone taking a vital part in meeting the challenges. But it’s not all work and no play. At each of our offices you’ll find a mix of hard work and fun activities that include summer picnics, food and craft beer tastings, holiday parties and more.

Our Ethos

We are building a company with the courage and creativity to take the unbeaten path and reinvent the future of education and learning. Our team of trailblazers hails from all corners of the globe and all walks of life. This is our Ethos--how we do what we do!

Our Credo

It's not a traditional mission, vision or values statement but, quite simply, a statement of who we are and what we believe. The Credo guides the choices we make as a company and as individuals.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Cengage full-time (More than 5 years)

So many people say it on Glassdoor - but it's true. The people here are the best I've worked with. Always eager to help - very few turf issues or agendas that you see in other organizations. Everybody is looking forward to figure out how we can better serve students and reform a broken industry.

A lot of that comes from the leadership that has put in the work to diagnose what's wrong with the industry and chart a course for Cengage that the rank and file believe in - and believe they can impact. Folks are bought in.

Other pro's: Casual culture for sure. A lot of fun is had amidst serious work. In Boston an amazing new office in the Seaport District. A growing number of social events, happy hours and the like -- many of them sponsored by Employee Resource Groups focused on the experience for People of Color, LGBTQ+ employees and Women in Technology. This is a progressive place always looking to improve. Plans to merge with McGraw Hill present all sorts of opportunities to have a bigger impact.

We are constantly looking to do things better so change is a constant. I don't see that as a negative -- in fact it's a positive -- but if you are change averse, this might be a tough place for you.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing the organization. Keep communicating.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cengage (Boston, MA) in August 2019.

Initial phone interview with Manager of Talent Acquisition. Second interviews were via Zoom and were held with 2 peers and 1 direct report of the position that I was applying for. Third interview was within a couple of days with VP of Technical Services, the Hiring Manager. Fourth round was on site in the Boston Corporate Office with and Executive Director, VP of Technical Services/Hiring Manager, 2nd interview, and also the CIO.

    Interview Questions

    • The initial interviews were based on my skills and experience. Both technical and management questions. I was asked what my strongest and weakest skills were, how I handled specific situations and provided examples on each one. Each interviewer was very respectful of my time and extremely knowledgeable in their areas of expertise.   1 Answer
