Wage - keeps me going until I finish my degree.
No matter how longer you are with the company, and how well you do your job, you are overlooked if you are not considered a team player, or someone in the "in" crowd, regardless of your experience and qualifications.
Advice to Management
Be more aware of what is going on in your company, not just what you are being told by your middle management lackeys. There are numerous staff working for your company, doing a better job than others who have been promoted, and yet they continue to be overlooked because of personal opinions as opposed to professional competency.
I applied in-person. The process took a week. I interviewed at Centrelink (Hobart (Australia)) in May 2008.
Position advertised in local paper requesting current resume to be sent. After forwarding this information, I was contacted for an alternative position based on the information provided in my resume.
There was no negotiation. A salary was offered and I could choose to accept or not. If not, then the position would have been withdrawn.
