The Employee Journey
The Employee Journey is a break-down of touchpoints from pre- hire to an employee's 1 year mark. Our Employee Journey is a way to ensure our employees have a positive experience from their first impression and throughout their tenure with Century.
Just as we are excited about our Client Journey and making sure our clients have the best experience possible, we are equally interested in making sure our employees have a great experience.
Training and Development
Our training team has created a clear customer-focused vision to more fully develop and train our staff. All programs lead back to the most basic purpose – Customer Experience Excellence.
In 2017, we designed and implemented a comprehensive plan with the focus on skills development, robust new-hire training, customer experience, and mentorship. The training sessions are taught by both our current leaders as well as outsourced professionals.
The Mentoring Program
Employees interested in future leadership and high potential employees have an open invitation to apply for the Century Mentor Program. Century's Mentoring program is designed to establish a trusting relationship with accountability from mentor to mentee. The objective is to agree on goals related to both professional and personal development and pair them with leaders who fit their needs and vision.
During 2017, our team began the development of a new initiative to identify employee career paths throughout the company. Officially rolling it out in 2018, Century invested in our employees by creating formalized career pathing for all positions in the company.
By creating paths, it helps employees see what growth potential is available to them in their current department and in other departments, making it possible to map out multiple scenarios. They can talk about the skills and ways to get to the next level with their manager, mentor, or while discussing an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
There are many key characteristics that a prospective employee may exhibit which tell us they may be a fit at Century. Candidates that are optimistic, have a positive attitude, and a proven work ethic are some things that we look for throughout the interviewing process. When a candidate has an engaging personality and looks us in the eye during the interview, this shows us they are interested in the opportunity.
We conduct behavioral and style assessments with the candidates to measure their potential fit with our culture. Our purpose at Century is to help our clients reach financial freedom. Candidates that show a sense of urgency to help others, are passionate, attentive and empathetic are some of the many characteristics we seek.

From the very beginning when we review a candidate's resume, correct spelling/grammar is of huge importance. The resume should show that the candidate has a consistent work history, without many job movements.
When our recruiting department conducts on-site interviews, we value candidates who show up early and complete all steps leading up to the interview. Any candidate who shows confidence and accountability throughout the process catches our attention. We love individuals who are up for a challenge and looking to grow and stay with a company.
Employees are eligible to enroll in a comprehensive employee benefits program beginning with their 1st day of employment. Century offers a generous company contribution (85% based on plan and coverage level) towards options including 4 health insurance choices, dental and vision.
Fully-paid company benefits are short and long term disability, life insurance, Employee Assistance Plan). Additional voluntary products can be purchased including life insurance for spouse and dependents, Critical Illness/Cancer/Accident policies for employees, spouse and dependents, and Legal Shield and Legal Shield ID Theft program. Century values employee feedback. There are many ways we receive feedback - like town hall meetings and Lunch with Leaders, but we also use Gallup for employee engagement surveys.
Century surveys its employees utilizing the well-known Gallup Employee Engagement Survey.The purpose is to provide high-level insights into the workplace by displaying the percentage of engaged, not engaged and actively disengaged employees overall.
Following the surveys, team discussions occur based on the Gallup results and each team is tasked with identifying areas to improve and creating goals to meet before the next survey. These discussions involve employees setting the direction for their team and are a great place for them to express what they need to be successful in their roles. Century has proven to be in Gallup's top 1/3 of companies employing the survey internationally for 3 years in a row and we had a 96% participation rate last year!
Lunch with Leaders is a special lunch held at least on a monthly basis. The lunch is attended by employees and one executive leadership team member. All employees are given the opportunity to sign-up to attend a lunch and may attend more than one. We try to have representaton from different departments at each event.
This is an opportunity for employees to meet with a member of the leadership team, learn more about the leader's area, and talk about themselves and their position within the company. Our goal is to connect, facilitate open communication, educate each other, all while putting a face to a name. And the free lunch is an added bonus!
To give a real-time 24/7 suggestion outlet, Century has both an onsite physical box (for anonymous suggestions) and an email suggestion mailbox. Employees are encouraged to submit suggestions. The Leadership team reviews and responds to all suggestions, and tracks them for possible implementation if viable. It can clarify help answer questions, and keep the good ideas flowing.
Great company. Work hard and you will succeed, like anywhere, but here they go out of their way to care about employees. Management is fair and competent. Your voice does matter here and management does listen and ASKS for opinions.
Off the top of my head, there aren’t really any cons. Maybe more access to financial news related books or magazines in break areas? I don’t know, everything is great.
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you’re doing! Continue to show your employees that you care and they will care!
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Century Support Services (Irwin, PA) in June 2017.
I was recruited through LinkedIn. I initially rejected the offer for an interview based on assuming this was a sales job but the recruiter explained that that wasn't the case and I went forward with the phone interview. The recruiter was very detailed in her explanation and passionate about me as a candidate. I went to an in person interview and met with two managers and my recruiter. It was a pleasant interview that lasted less than an hour where we went over my resume a little bit and they asked me personality based questions to make sure that I was going to fit as a negotiator. I walked away feeling like I got the job, and was informed I had shortly thereafter.
