Through innovation and creative product design, CertainTeed has helped shape the building products industry for more than 100 years.

In 1904, George M. Brown, a young entrepreneur in East St. Louis, Illinois, started the General Roofing Manufacturing Company.  As General Roofing's reputation for quality and service grew, so did the company. The firm made its slogan "Quality Made Certain, Satisfaction Guaranteed," which quickly inspired the name CertainTeed.

In 1988, CertainTeed became a wholly owned subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, the world's largest building materials company, renowned for its expertise in glass technology.

Today, with the full support of Saint-Gobain, CertainTeed's financial and technological resources are stronger than ever. CertainTeed is North America’s leading brand of exterior and interior building products, including roofing, siding, fence, decking, railing, trim, insulation, gypsum and ceilings.

Helping Make a Difference In Our Communities

Though we are part of one of the world's largest companies, we have never lost sight of the fact as a global citizen, we are entrusted to do what's right for the earth and its people. This involves being sustainable at the highest levels across everything we do. Sustainability isn’t just about products: it’s about people, too.

The Saint-Gobain Corporation Foundation

To make a difference in the quality of life in the communities where we live and work, the Saint-Gobain Corporation Foundation provides financial support for charities and educational institutions through such programs as

  • Plant Community Gifts
  • Matching Gifts
  • Direct Grants programs

The foundation matched nearly 1,800 employee donations in 2014., providing more than $1 million in funding to nearly 700 non-profit groups in  the U.S. and Canada. Our employees also show their commitment and generosity by donating food, clothing and toys as well as volunteering and taking part in community work parties, walkathons and food drives.

We believe our role in the world goes further than the traditional approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). For most companies, CSR is simply an obligation, but at CertainTeed, we see beyond the basic responsibility to the community and the environment, to the true partnerships that allow us to innovate. It’s something we like to call "Corporate Social Innovation" and it fuels our passion for invention with a purpose.

Building Community Partnerships

Through our strong involvement in local communities, we’ve built powerful, creative partnerships with a variety of remarkable people and programs. Working together, we’re able to achieve real results that uplift the lives those around us. Recent examples of the various ways that Saint-Gobain gets involved include:

  • YouthBuild USA, to which we donate funds, building materials, and employee volunteer hours to projects in Worcester, Philadelphia, Schenectady and Canton.
  • United Way of Worcester, who has honored Saint-Gobain for our ongoing support and leadership role in the community.
  • Girls Inc., a local non-profit for which we donated all the supplies and labor needed to refinish a gymnasium floor.
  • Employees of our plants in Merrimack, New Hampshire and Hiram, Ohio have donated our OneSuit hazardous material suits to their community hazmat teams.

In 2010, the company initiated a partnership with YouthBuild USA and its Green Initiative. YouthBuild USA is a non-profit organization that helps unemployed young people transform their lives by earning high-school diplomas or GEDs while also learning green construction skills. For students, it's a life-changing opportunity to gain in-demand, green-collar skills as they build sustainable, affordable housing for low-income families in their communities. For Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed, it's an equally rewarding opportunity to educate future generations about sustainable building and environmental preservation through its own products and people.

While we made a significant financial contribution to YouthBuild – $750,000 over four years – our commitment goes well beyond money. It also includes the donation of energy-efficient building products, employee volunteer support and expertise. Building Scientists from our subsidiary CertainTeed have led education sessions and participated in “design charettes” to ensure the sustainability of partnership projects. Company employees worked side-by-side with young people at service events.  We've hosted career days and tours of our facilities. And, we're launching a new pilot called “Scientists in the Classroom” where our employees will be acting as teachers and mentors for YouthBuild students in the classroom.

    Sales Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Malvern, PA
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

Applied to position through company web site. After a few weeks I was contacted by a gentleman in HR for a short phone interview who also didn't know specifics on the position (based on other reviews I've read prior to mine). We agreed on a specific day and time for a scheduled call but he never called on that day and no email was sent to explain why he didn't do the call until two days later when I reached out to him first. Call is completed then week and a half goes by without any follow-up or response on next steps. After that I reach out again to inquire about next steps and no response - then week or so later I receive an email to ask if I am available for in person interview. I comply, interview with 4 people in Malvern office, send all my thank you emails the next day and don't hear back from anyone! I mean really, 4 face interviews and not even the courtesy to send a short email response? Then few weeks go by and I receive email from HR guy saying everyone was interested in me and can I come in for one more face interview - then same scenario takes place, do the interview, send follow up thank you email and no responses from HR or the interviewer. Finally receive email from HR week or so later that they are interested and will get back to me. Very long and ridiculous story short, now almost 3 weeks go by without any response after I left a phone/email message. If this is how they treat candidates that they like how do they really treat employees? I know large companies tend to have a longer HR process but this seems excessive and quite unprofessional to leave people hanging in this manner. A short concise email with a brief update only takes a minute to send out - no one is that busy.
