Mission: CHILDREN AT RISK serves as a catalyst for change to improve the quality of life for children through strategic research, public policy analysis, education, collaboration and advocacy.
I worked at Children at Risk full-time
the work is rewarding, and everyone working there is dedicated to the work they do.
there is no HR or training. the management does not make sense. the CEO picks favorites and does not know how to manage, throws around insane ideas and is extremely childish when things don't go as planned. there is no financial management or oversight on his part when it comes to grants and development.
typical non profit, much to do, very short on staff.
not much room to move up, transition job
Advice to Management
get someone to manage communication between employees and the CEO and strengthen internal relationships.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Children at Risk (Houston, TX).
it was easier because I had a reference. I was also probably a bit overqualified (didn't realize this until I started). It was a small group of people who asked me about previous work I did in college and your typical personality "would you fit here" questions. I think I heard from them within the week
