I applied online. I interviewed at City of Alexandria Virginia (Alexandria, VA) in May 2017.

Applied online and about three weeks later received an email inviting me for an interview. The office location was in Old Towne a few blocks from the waterfront.

The format was a structured panel Q&A. Prior to the actual interview, I was given the list of questions (around 12) I would be asked. They give you about 15 minutes to study it and gather your thoughts.

After the time was up, the HR rep led me to a small conference room where I meet the interviewers. There were three folks -- two of which were management level and the third was a line analyst. The HR rep was also in the room but didn't participate. The interview lasted about an hour. The interviewers were all very nice and professional.

Next I took an excel test where you are asked to analyze a budget, answer some questions and generate a written report. You are given 45 minutes to complete it.

I was told the next step would be a second interview with the department director. After two weeks went by I never heard anything and assumed I wasn't selected to move forward. I did get a thanks but no thanks email about two months after the interview.

All in all this was a pretty easy to average interview and I thought it went well. They give you the list of questions before hand which is really helpful. Be prepared to articulate your experiences in a concise and succinct fashion and how they relate to the position you are applying. Preparation, just like everything else in life, is paramount.
