I have been working at City of Greensboro full-time (More than 5 years)
The city offers excellent benefits, including fair amounts of paid time off. Co workers are awesome, and truly make the job fun.
The majority of decisions are based on left wing politics. Unfortunately, the city council has their hands in everything and totally screws things up. The city is more concerned with their public image than they are with employee safety or common sense tactics.
Advice to Management
Stand up to council on issues that matter most.
I applied online. I interviewed at City of Greensboro (Winston-Salem, NC).
Interviewed with a panel of 3. All white, one guy from the department, head of the department and Fair Housing Manager. I felt comfortable, until one of the guys mentioned my fancy black suit ( as a woman I always dress professionally for interviews) panel style interview, was told a lot of applicants applied out of 150 plus, narrowed down to 23 and I was 1 out of the 8 final. I submitted my referral letters at the beginning of the start and they read off a sheet of questions. I felt out of place and not comfortable. Wish there was more diversity at the table as I am an African American female.
