I have been working at City of Roanoke full-time (More than 3 years)
Great working environment, freedom to have ownership over your tasks. Ability to express you creativity, build relationships within the community and create new events.
Don't get paid a ton but very good wage. A lot of time in front of a computer. Work some nights and weekends. During events work really long hours (14 hours a day sometimes).
Advice to Management
I think they do a great job and really take care of their employees so don't really have too much advice.
I applied online. The process took a year or more. I interviewed at City of Roanoke (Roanoke, VA).
Pretty Standard interview for law enforcement position. It is a long process of doing background checks, polygraph, psych test, neighbor check, home visit. After everything is completed then there is an interview with the sheriff, who asks you questions. They already know your background at this point, and want to gauge you as a person. My advice is to be honest and consistent with your answers, they already know your background, and if they don't, they will find out.
