Clayco – Why Work With Us?

Clayco is a full-service, turnkey real estate, architecture, engineering, design-build and construction firm that delivers clients around the world the highest quality solutions on time, on budget and above and beyond expectations.

Develop. Design. Build. It’s not just the steps in the design-build process that set us apart. It’s how we overlap each step to make every project better. Founded in 1984, every project we’ve built has been fully integrated and we have revolutionized the design-build process every step of the way. Our building processes deliver solutions of the highest standard, and clients have trusted Clayco to handle their most complex construction projects for over 30 years.

Clayco has dramatically set new standards for collaborative design, construction quality and craftsmanship, efficient project management, cost containment and jobsite safety. With over $2.6+ billion in revenue for 2018 and more than 2,000 employees across the country, we are one of the nation’s largest privately-owned real estate, architecture, engineering, design-build and construction firms. Our people specialize in the “art and science of building,” providing fast-track, efficient solutions in North America for commercial, institutional, industrial and residential building projects. Year after year, we are ranked by Engineering News Record as a top design-builder and contractor.

A History of Building Innovation

We are dedicated to the art and science of building in a constantly evolving way. We seek out new technologies, new methods, new ways to execute high quality, mission critical projects. We’ve been innovating since our inception in 1984, from being one of the first to utilize a full-room computer server to the data-collecting project site drones we utilize today.

An Unlikely Story

Clayco was formed July 23, 1984 by Bob Clark, then just 25 years old. In the first year, the company completed $1.2 million in revenue and then dramatically grew the company to 191 employees and $8 million in revenue through mostly industrial, process, and design-build work in the St. Louis metro area. The company grew over 40% per year in 9 of the first 16 years.

Integrated services expansion

1997-1998 were large growth years for Clayco. The firm consolidates all its practices into Clayco Construction Company, Inc., including our newly formed full-service real estate services. Forum Studio is created as well, expanding the Clayco services even further.

Taking the lead

In 2005, Clayco officially designates our full service contracting concrete subcontracting company, Concrete Strategies. Throughout the mid-2000s, we continue to grow in spades and expand into LEED certified buildings, with the Novus Headquarters being the first Platinum building in the portfolio.

An established force

We rallied behind the mantra “Beyond These Walls” in 2011, making it our mission to understand the needs of the people who will use the buildings we develop, design and construct. We moved our headquarters to the Chicago loop in 2013 to better serve our clients and further diversify the talent base. Today the company employs over 2,000 team members across the nation and over $2 billion in annual revenue.

Encouraging Growth

Clayco is always striving to provide equal opportunity to ALL people and all qualified small business suppliers and contractors in all areas where we conduct business. Providing opportunities for people and disadvantaged as well as minority and women owned businesses is a standard method of operation throughout all levels of the Clayco organization.

Clayco has established a long-term mentoring relationship with several disadvantaged firms, assisting them on providing services with quality and professionalism. We plan to continue to provide mentoring services and encourage the growth of the local subcontractor and vendor base.

In meeting Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) goals, we ensure that we provide “right sized” bid packages that allow for MBE/WBE success. In addition, we actively search the local market to ensure we get the best MBE/WBE firms involved in our project.

Our collaborative approach can open new doors to your career and professional development. Clayco’s intentional disruption of the construction industry attracts the industry’s best and brightest.

Working at Clayco is an entirely different experience from the industry standard. The professionals on our team are excited to get up every morning and get going, and we built our business around the passion of our people and the ideas they bring everyday. We offer an excellent salary and benefits along with a bonus program that is unparalleled in the industry. Clayco has also been named as one of the best places to work year after year.

Throughout the continuous growth of Clayco, we've maintained a small company feel. With all the entities under one roof, you are able to connect with colleagues you may be isolated from in other settings. You are trusted and expected to do your job without a lot of hand holding, but are never made to feel like you can’t approach managers/mentors for guidance. If you’re looking for a challenging role and enjoy a fast paced environment, Clayco is the perfect place.

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Clayco in October 2015.

I met a recruiter at my college's engineering career fair. I got called for a second interview about 1-2 week later. The interview was on-campus and lasted 30 minutes. In was a 1:1 interview with their hiring manager.
