I worked at College Prowler as an intern (Less than a year)
You can do the work from home, which is highly unusual for an internship in any industry, and at the end of it you've essentially written a whole book! (E-book, but still.) It's a great work sample for future jobs. The internship experience is very streamlined, instructions are easy to follow, and the staff was awesome. Any question or problem I ever ran into was addressed punctually and courteously.
Their internships are unpaid, unless you win the scholarship for your academic term. Also, you're not going to be in their office working side by side with editors, which can be a downside if you're looking to get insight into publishing. Great experience for writing in a professional capacity, working with a content management system, and collaborating with an editorial team, albeit at a distance.
