The hours are manageable and the overtime pay is worth it. You get to meet new people at the pool and if your a good lifeguard, the patrons might even feed you. So it's great!
The hours are tiring and sitting out in the sun all day can drain a person. On slow days one can easily get bored to death so it's recommend that you bring something to keep you occupied.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Continental Pools.
Quick interview, maybe 20 minutes. Explained the training process and ask me a few basic questions. I was offered the job at the first interview pending my completion of their training class. (Sadly it didn't take a whole lot of effort to pass with my first aid & life guard certification) If you can swim the job is basically a piece of cake.
