I have been working at Corning Cable Systems full-time (More than 8 years)
Work is not to physically demanding and the work schedule gives people a lot of chances to take vacation. Pay is competitive and insurance is decent.
Communication is an issue but with large companies this tends to happen. There are to many instances when a issue arises and instead of making an example out of the individual they use the blanket approach and change policies to punish the entire workforce. This can have an immediate effect on moral.
Advice to Management
Keep striving to listen to the workforce and heed there opinions/concerns/suggestions. It should be a top priority to make the workers happy and in turn we work harder and appreciate the job more. This is turn makes the company more money and of course this makes Management extremely happy in the long run. You have to invest in the short term to reap the rewards in the long term.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Corning Cable Systems (Hickory, NC).
I applied first to a non-Corning recruiter, who submitted me to the company. I had a phone screen with the hiring manager, then a second phone interview with someone else from the department. Corning flew me to North Carolina for one-on-one interviews with team members. Finally, I had a follow up phone interview with two senior VPs. It was quite exhaustive.
I could not have been more impressed with my Corning interview experience. The process moved along at a reasonable pace - it didn't drag on but it wasn't rushed, either. The HR person who was my point of contact was professional, courteous and very responsive. Everybody I met with at Corning was very impressive - smart and capable but also good people. It's clear they have built an environment where people do exceptional work but they also support one another.
I received an offer but, unfortunately, had to turn it down due to a family illness. But Corning would be a great place to work and, based on my interview experience, I would recommend this company to anybody.
