Cortland – Why Work For Us?

We are the dreamers, designers, and doers behind our living spaces and experiences from the way we make our residents smile to the features we design and place in our homes.

We feel that who we are is defined by what we value and the actions we take:

Our Core Values

  1. Love what you do, and let it show.
  2. Do the right thing for the right reason.
  3. Listen, with your heart and your mind.
  4. Grow together, and play as a team.
  5. Have the courage to be better.

At Cortland, we’re not just getting bigger – we’re getting better. Not only did we move into the large category in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Top Workplaces competition, but we also moved up in our ranking to #7. We’re always interested in new talent joining our teams as we continue to set a new standard for the apartment industry.

We work to create communities, experiences, and solutions beyond expectations – down to the smallest details of our everyday interactions to the standards by which we live and build.

The vision behind every Cortland community is brought to life in-house by teams who we believe bring the best practices from a wide array of customer-centric industries to the mix. We’re always looking for passionate, smart, service-minded people to join our teams as we take apartment living to a new level.

Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, we have communities across the US and regional offices in Charlotte, Dallas, Denver, Houston, and Orlando. We also house our global materials sourcing office in Shanghai, China and international development office in London, UK.

At Cortland, we believe in a better life where hospitality is always a given, each detail is worth a second thought, and every open door is a new opportunity to go beyond expectations. We come to work every day with the goal of delighting our residents and creating possibilities for our associates and partners.

Our Residents: We want the place they call home to be the place they can’t wait to come home to.

Our Associates: We want to empower our people to be the best versions of themselves as we grow and succeed together.

Our Investors: We want our investors to feel like true partners who believe in our mission and are confident in our ability to deliver excellent living experiences and sustainable returns.

At Cortland, we believe in a better life where hospitality is always a given, each detail is worth a second thought, and every open door is a new opportunity to go beyond expectations. We come to work every day to create possibilities for people: our residents, our associates, and our investors. We are people-powered, entrepreneurial, and high-performing – and we care deeply about what we do and who we serve.

We don't adhere to the status quo, we love outside industry perspective, and we thrive on exploring possibilities and reimagining solutions. With tools and guidance to sharpen your skills, associates have the opportunity to forge their own career path, love what they do, and let it show.

I have been working at Cortland full-time (More than a year)

There are far too many pros to list out so I'll just hit the highlights. This is one of the greatest companies you could work for. I have been continuously blown away since the first day by the friendliness of the associates, the culture that drives Cortland's success, and the atmosphere that still gets me excited to come to work (and I've been here for over a year). The work load can certainly be challenging at times, but your team is always there to support you; it's not like you're ever just left to your own devices. Job training is offered to every associate to keep everyone performing at their highest level.

Sure the deadlines can be rough and the pace can sometimes be a little too fast, but I wouldn't trade in any part of my experience thus far. It's been one heck of a year so far, and I'm excited to see where the next year takes me.

A lot of programs are hyped up, rolled out, and then kind of forgotten about. I'd love it if our initiatives kept up with our fast pace instead of being left in the dust.

    Advice to Management

Keep on keeping on! Just don't forget about programs that could make the associate experience even better.

I applied through other source. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Cortland (Atlanta, GA) in February 2018.

My first phone interview was with someone from the talent department, my second was with my potential boss. After completing those interviews I took online personality/analytical assessment tests. After taking the test, I completed an in person interview with 5 people(separately). Lastly, I completed 4 in-person assessment tests with a psychologist. Overall, this company is thorough and ORGANIZED! I couldn’t have picked a better company to work for. While the interview process was intense, knowing that they care that much about who works beside them makes all the difference.
