I have been working at Coupang full-time (Less than a year)
- Incredible, talented coworkers who actually care about the business and team as a whole
- politics present, but kept to a minimum level.
-flexible working hours and free lunches!
- Evening meetings with Korea can make WLB tricky for some people
-Improvements can be made about inter-team comms
-Pay is slightly below standard for a tech company in Downtown Seattle, not too serious though since benefits are pretty generous
- Growing pains! our team is still not big enough to cope with insane growth.
-can't get to experience the exciting part in Korea(they don't operate in USA for ecommerce :( )
Advice to Management
Keep doing whatever you're doing and listen to your employees!
I applied through other source. I interviewed at Coupang (Seattle, WA) in June 2017.
I felt compelled to leave a review for the interview process at Coupang because my experience differed so much from other reviews. As I prepared for both my phone screen and in-person interviews, I referenced the reviews on here to help me prepare.
The first round of the interview was a pretty typical phone-screen which included a live online coding challenge. The question was challenging but not overly difficult, and required basic knowledge of algorithms and data structures. The interviewer was very friendly and was clearly passionate about the work he was doing at Coupang.
About a week later the recruiter followed up to schedule an on-site interview at their office in Seattle. The structure of the interview was 5 one-hour meetings. Four of the five meetings were with team members for the position I was interviewing, and one was from another team. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with all five people - everyone was very friendly and their enthusiasm for Coupang really showed. Many other reviews on here suggested the interviewers were rude and critical, but this couldn't be further from the experience I had. Three of the five meetings primarily revolved around whiteboard coding challenges, one was a high-level discussion with the team leader, and the last was mostly customer-oriented behavioral questions with some systems design. I appreciated that the nature of the interview questions were not particular to specific technologies or advanced concepts, but rather it was clear their intention is simply to gauge your ability as a problem solver.
