Cryptic Studios is a leading developer of massively multiplayer online role playing games, with a reputation for delivering profitable, on-time and on-budget titles. Cryptic developed the innovative and successful City of Heroes, as well as its subsequent expansion, City of Villains. Both titles garnered numerous awards from leading enthusiast press including GameSpy's Game of the Year award in 2004.
After developing both City of Heroes and City of Villains, Cryptic was purchased by Atari and created Champions Online and Star Trek Online. Cryptic was acquired by Perfect World in August 2011 and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Perfect World. In addition to supporting Champions Online and Star Trek Online with new updates and content, Cryptic is now developing Neverwinter and other unannounced projects. The company continues to rapidly diversify its portfolio of games with the aim of reaching beyond the traditional MMORPG genre.
Cryptic Studios' development process is centered on efficiently structured teams working together in a collaborative atmosphere to develop high quality games. The goal is to deliver unparalleled gaming experiences that appeal to a wide range of audiences and to iterate based on early prototyping and vertical slices.
Cryptic utilizes a proprietary engine that contains all the tools needed to efficiently build and operate massive online games. Developed in house, the engine continues to be upgraded and adjusted by its original creators to improve the engine's versatility and functionality. In addition, efficient content generation tools have been incorporated to streamline the development process, allowing real-time testing of art assets within the game environment.
Cryptic's belief in balancing valuable family time with work provides a positive environment, promoting team work, creativity and the exchange of ideas and opinions.
The Cryptic Studios management team has a solid, proven track record of leading the development of games and technologies that appeal to hardcore gamers and the mainstream audience.

I have been working at Cryptic Studios full-time (More than 8 years)
Cryptic provides a fun, family-like atmosphere, in which to work. As a mid-sized company, competing for the type of prestige normally held by some of the nearby tech giants, Cryptic manages to provide many of the benefits and perks of a large company, without losing the small office feel, so many enjoy.
Management is extremely supportive of the employees, here at Cryptic. Encouraging personal and professional growth, as well as supporting the personal needs of all employees.
I am also immensely proud of the innovation & creativity Cryptic and its teams bring to bear, in producing excellent game content. It seems that no matter the deadline or no matter the difficult task to handle, we get it done.
As a smaller company, Cryptic isn't able to offer many of the higher-end perks, commonly found at larger tech companies in Silicon Valley.
I applied online. I interviewed at Cryptic Studios in February 2017.
Applied Online and received a test about 1 month later. The online test has two questions, the question is OK but definitely takes more than 3 hours. I passed and interviewed with HR then. Then a technical interview about basic C, bitwise operator, optimization. I did not do well since I am not very good at bit, cache. There might be more questions, but I spent too long on the previous questions. The interviewer is pretty nice and professional, he is very patient even though I made a lot of 'stupid' mistakes. There should be another interview, but due to my bad performance, they just move on and did not call.
